New Laundry Room – Before & After

Hi Steffi, one of my 101 in 1001 goals was to complete a home project. The yoga room is almost done, but the project we started over a year ago is now basically done. I say basically because it’s not pretty, but I do have a laundry room IN the house now. We had to make a new doorway, re-wire some electrical, insulate the walls, hang new drywall, and move the washer and dryer. It was quite the project!

Untitled

Before. The only way in was through this door in the backyard. The bedroom door is right there also, but that was three doors to go through to do laundry!

There’s the old entry door where you got in from outside, behind these helpful men!

They ripped off the old drywall/pegboard and found no plumbing lines through where we wanted the new door. Woo!

20140405_110608 20140405_113624

Figuring out measurements for the new door. That was legitimately my dad’s shopping list. On a piece of wood. Not gunna lie, I didn’t have much to do with this project other than documentation haha.

20140405_112405 20140405_113300

Derp! Look at this puppy! He was trying to be helpful. We covered up this old dryer vent hole and made a new one on the other side of the room where the dryer would be.

Here’s the huge blank wall in the kitchen where the new doorway was going to be.

20140405_124904

Grayson vacuumed the dust as my dad was cutting out the drywall. This was very helpful as it didn’t make a big mess in my kitchen!

20140405_125114 20140405_130503

Yay doorway!

After

We still wanted to cover up the old doorway so we took the door out and put a piece of siding on the outside.

20150124_150759

They insulated everything and put up new drywall. Right next to the dryer is where the old door was. We added a spare bit of carpet so it wasn’t just concrete flooring.

20150124_150837

After! I even have shelving. And the kitty box no longer has to be in the kitchen. I got a little cabinet unit for my birthday as well that will go in here once Grayson helps me put it together. There’s not a whole lot of space so my parents bought cabinets that were only a foot deep, but I can put cleaning supplies and leftover paint cans in there!

It may not be pretty, but it’s functional and it’s accessible from inside the house so I’ve been very happy with it! A huge thank you to the wonderful men in my life! ❤

Sephora Haul

Hello Keddahbean,

I wanted to show you what I got with my VIP Rouge 15% off coupon!

First, last year was 20% and not giving us 20% this year is a bunch of horse hockey (this phrase is now added to my vernacular thanks to Northernlion. Andrew and I watch his videos more than I’m comfortable admitting to you, Kara.) Second, when Maryann had her fall, Andrew and I packed up about a days worth of clothes and toiletries, because we didn’t know where she was going to end up. When she was transferred down to Phoenix, I left my skin care in the car – and since skin care needs to remain at a certain temperature, otherwise it’s no good, I had to buy all new stuff (which I was eager to do – I didn’t care for my old stuff anyways). Third, all products purchased DO NOT test on animals. Working with Alison has reminded me that fighting against animal cruelty with my dollars spent is not an uphill battle. I want to get back to having a cruelty free beauty regime!

Edit: I wrote this blog post before I found out that Tarte was bought last year by a company in Japan that tests on animals. I may or may not be returning my Tarte product, but all of my opinions on the product are still true haha.

Edit (again): sorry for the lack of pictures! It’s moving day!

Let’s start with skin care.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 40: This is a wonderful moisturizer. It has a really odd/lovely mouse like texture, it doesn’t break me out, it’s light and sinks into the skin right away, and the best part is, it has more natural ingredients for sun protection, like zinc oxide! For those who are natural sun-care savvy, this sunscreen/moisturizer does not leave a white cast on my skin, but I’m not a hundred percent sure if anything could make me more white.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream: Again, this is a wonderful product. A unique texture, again, but it’s so soft and it melts into the skin. I’m experiencing no irritation using this product and I’ve noticed that my skin is really looking lovely even though I’ve had a hard couple of weeks with little sleep.

First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy Overnight Balm: I currently use FAB’s Eye Duty Triple Remedy: Brighten, Depuff and Smooth in the morning and I’ve used their 5 in 1 Eye Cream, so I was eager to try their overnight balm, which is a recent release. This product is creamy, balmy, and is doing wonders for my eyes. This is the first overnight eye product I’ve used that hasn’t caused irritation. My eyes aren’t puffy when I wake up and they seem much more hydrated. It is not helping with any fine lines, but I know I’m going to have to spend more than $38 for help in that area.

Also, this product is a balm so I massage it into my eye area. There’s no tugging or pulling involved so it’s safe to do, but I feel that massaging it into the skin leads to the best results.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen: I’ve used this product before and I love it so. It’s such a nice, velvety, simple, sheer foundation. This is my third or fourth bottle and it will continue to be a staple in my beauty regime for a long time to come. Best of all, it’s pale enough! Almost too pale! Woohoo!

Extra Goodies: I spent a few of my beauty points and got a few naughty extras. A sample of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (which is arguably NOT better than sex. This mascara was halfway down my face by the end of the day [there’s a dirty joke here but I’m too lazy to find it]), and a Beauty Insider 500 Point perk which included a cute little makeup bag (which is actually wonderful quality), a sample size of Tarte’s LipSurgence Skintuitive Lip Tint in Energy (which I haven’t tried yet), a sample size of Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural in Copper Pink (haven’t tried and I don’t know if this is a cruelty free brand), a sample size of  Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (again, haven’t tried and I don’t know if this is a cruelty free brand), and a sample size of First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser (which is lovely and I will be keeping for travel!).

That’s it for my naughty purchases! Hope you enjoyed =D

To the furthest star and back,

Disneyland Trip!

Hi Steffi,

This is an account of my second trip of the year. It was Kyle’s birthday trip even though it was over a month late. We met up with Katie and Andrew and began our 15 hour adventure!

collage

We started in DCA and made our round there in an hour and half. We spun around on Mater’s ride first; it has a fun, look-at-the-goat kind of feeling to it. We checked out Arendelle and I showed him the crappy sno-cone snow. We battled on Toy Story Mania where Kyle boasted about his accuracy. Goofy’s Sky School is always fun terrifying with your eyes closed. We tried racing cars for a second time, but it shut down and we got to walk off! Lastly was Grizzly River Rapids, always good for a rush of water between your legs from the sneaky holes in the bottom of the raft. Katie & Andrew didn’t brave this part so they left us to do some wedding stuff and we’d see them later.

Our day was going great so far. We went over to Disneyland and checked out the improved Alice; three cheers for creepy Alice being gone! We hovered around the castle for a bit, looking at all the decorations for the 60th. DEAR GOD HELP ME, I HEARD A CHILD SAY, “THAT’S ELSA’S CASTLE!” “YES, THAT’S RIGHT.” REPLIED HER FATHER. Oh how I could have been so evil and a real asshat just then! I wish you had been there to do it for me.

We rarely wait in the Indy line, but we did and it broke down. We waited for 15 minutes and it started working again, we sat down in the 3rd row seats, aaaand it broke again. The people next to us were having similar luck with their day, so I did a bit of magic and gave them our Cars passes we’d received when we walked off the ride. They were pretty happy 🙂 Two hours after getting in line,we finally got Indy over with and found Katie & Andrew (they had been trying to find us while we were stuck). I stepped in some gum, we waited in a really long Space line, Katie & Andrew were being cute, Kyle braved a new pose on Splash Mountain and I finally ate a corndog in my corndog Hank shirt.

It was a really great day. Happy birthday Kyle! And thanks, Walt!

5/10/15 and Silver Linings

Hi Kara,

I don’t know how to start this post.

Last Friday, Andrew and I woke up to panicked call from Andrew’s sister, Robin, with the news that Andrew’s mom had fallen down a flight of stairs into a chest of drawers. This lead to more than seven broken ribs, an emergency flight to Phoenix to remove her ruptured spleen, a collapsed lung, pneumonia, bacterial infections, and more. It has been eight days since her fall and she’s finally out of the ICU.

Kara, you know how hard it is for me to digest how I’m feeling – and to be honest – I have very few words that can accurately describe how horrible, terrifying, and emotionally taxing this week has been. (Maryann is going to call me “such an Aquarius” and comment on my weak ankles after reading this.)

So instead of talking about the negative side of this experience, I’m going to talk about silver linings.

1) It could have been so much worse. She, miraculously, didn’t hit her head. She didn’t break her neck or spine or skull. She survived the plane ride to Phoenix with a spleen that had been ruptured for 8 hours. She made it through two massive surgeries. She’s on the mend.

2) Family. We got to see Andrew’s aunt, cousin, grandma and grandpa who drove from California to be with her, and I’ve seen two of his four sisters almost every day (the other two are across the country, but were there in spirit). I cannot express how grateful I am to be a part of their family.

3) She’s going to quit smoking!

4) I got to put another pin in the pincushion that is my continually growing love for Andrew. This has been even harder on him, and I’ve never seen him so worried, heart-broken, or scared. But throughout this experience, he’s thanked me endlessly for being there for him, his(our) mom and his(our) family. If anyone were to ask me the qualities of a “real man,” I would point them Andrew’s way. He is the epitome of a gentlemen, and I am the luckiest.

5) I learned two new things: One, hospital food is cheap and delicious. I will almost be sad to leave my morning yogurt bowl. Two, I am capable of fainting when my loved ones show me large scars or when I see a bent IV tube come out of someones arm *EHHEM* but I am less likely to faint than I thought I was from blood. You only learn these things from experience, so there’s that.

And those are my silver linings!

As you can imagine, the cost of this whole ordeal is going to be immense. Nikki, Andrew’s sister, set up a page on YouCaring.com to try to help cover her increasing expenses. Of course, there is no obligation for anyone to donate, but I can say from the bottom of my heart that every donation and share is filling my heart with so much of something really nice and fluffy (again, she’s going to make fun of me for being an Aquarius) that I feel like it’s going to burst.

If you’d like to donate or share her YouCaring.com fundraiser, you can click the link here or copy and paste the link below into your browser.

International Table Top Day!

Hi Steffi it’s Tuesday and last Saturday was International Table Top Day! We were so sad you guys could not come, so here’s some of what we did.

I attempted to make meeple shaped treats. (Meeple are the game pieces for Carcassonne in case you didn’t know.) I watched a Nerdy Nummies’ video in preparation and they sorta came out well..haha.

20150411_092455

I made rice crispy treats and cut out stars and then re-shaped them to resemble meeple. I put them in the freezer for a few mins to solidify the shape.

20150411_101702

Then I dipped some lollipop sticks in some melted candy and shove them up the meeple butts.

20150411_101221

They would probably come out less lumpy if you had deeper bowls so you could completely submerge them. I had to kind of scoop it up over them.

20150411_104457

TADAAA! They were super tasty at least.

Grayson bought a new game I’ve wanted for a long time..Ticket to Ride!!

20150413_182912

We got into no less than 3 nerf gun wars. This is literally a fraction of the arsenal. We had about 60 guns.

20150411_132917

We played lots of Mario Party 10 and blind tag and it was a great day of games. Til next year, PLAY MORE GAMES!

Stitch Fix #3

405607_413937642025199_266617682_n

Hi Steffi it’s Stitch Fix time! I was surprised I didn’t get more spring stuff in this box, but it was still a fun box. I love coming home to try on a box of clothes! Here’s what I got.

Papermoon – girtha printed dress. It’s more navy than black and it’s super soft. My stylist said I could dress it down with flats and a jean jacket or dress it up for work with the blazer in the box.

Pixlr_20150407173613992Pixlr_20150407173843733Pixlr_20150407174138323

41Hawthorn – benson 3/4 ruched sleeve blazer. This is very cute, but super heavy. I really can’t wear this anytime but winter in AZ and it’s too pricey to buy now.

Pixlr_20150407172559556_20150407190124563Pixlr_20150407175037570Pixlr_20150407175351286

Market & Spruce – corinna striped dolman top. I’m loving these comfy, loose tops they’re sending me!

Pixlr_20150407174556330_20150407184212572Pixlr_20150407174704096

Dear John – marson wide leg denim trouser. I liked these dark wash boot cut style jeans, but they’re expensive and I’m not a huge fan of having to wear heeled shoes to get the bottoms off the floor. It’s getting too hot to wear jeans and boots anyway. I’m wearing them with the green top above.

Bay to Baubles – sauna curved bar necklace. This is cute! I got a gold necklace last time too, but I love the simplicity of this one. I may have to get it.

Pixlr_20150407175658580

Here’s a look at the note included in this fix so you can get an idea of why I love these so much! And here’s my Stitch Fix link in case anyone would like to try it out!

Bye Steffikins!

Disneyland!

Hi Keddah,

I just got back from my Disneyland trip. It was uncomfortably busy for a Thursday but we got our pictures taken for our engagement shoot at park opening so I think some wonderful shots will be taken.

I am exhausted, so this post probably won’t make sense but DISNEYLAND.

Also, here is an undoctored picture of the new and improved castle!

The diamonds are tacky and plastic looking and they removed our owl so all and all I’m unimpressed.

BUT I CAN’T WAIT TO GO FOR THE 60th!

To the furthest star and back,
