101 in 1001: Revised

Hi Kara,

I’ve felt discouraged lately to continue to do this list. So I’m copying and pasting my old list on to here, updating the tasks that I have done, deleting some that no longer apply to my life, and then I’m going to leave some spaces blank. And that’s okay. Because I don’t know how much I will change in the next year and a half.

I never thought in a million years that I would be headed to Japan for my honeymoon – but here I am and I’ve never been so excited for a trip before in my life.

I never thought that I could honestly say that I have no interest in going to Disneyland for a whole year. (No more Aladdin, no more train, NO MORE HOPE JOY LOVE ANYTHING HAPPY LIKE SNAILS AND BUTTERFLIES AND CATS AND I’M REALLY MAD AT YOU DISNEYLAND OKAY)

Hi Steffibun! I hope you had a wonderful weekend after your weird Friday. I don’t have much for you this week but I wanted to catch you up on a few things. And gifs.

I’m going to the gym again! And we’re trying to eat better by grocery shopping at Sprouts every Monday and planning at least 3 dinners a week. Here’s our groceries for this week!

101 in 1001 tasks I’ve completed recently: (69/101!)
3. Schedule doctor and dentist appointments each year
5. Buy a family car (okay so this isn’t done quite yet, but we’re buying Grayson’s dad’s truck very soon!)
11. Make 10 recipes from pinterest
35.Buy a lottery ticket when there’s a crazy big jackpot

The Oscars are on Sunday! One of my goals is to watch all the best picture nominated movies one year. I’ve only seen the most popular 3 from this year, but I do plan on watching them all eventually. Three of them I can rent for $5 on google play so I may be spending lots of Saturday on the couch.
The Big Short
Bridge of Spies
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant

I’m playing WoW again. This is all I have to say.
this is bad.gif

Yes, I’m still reading The Cuckoo’s Calling. Page 181. Yes, I read less than 10 pages a day.

Ok that’s all I have, I hope this made you smile! I love you bye!

Bonus gif. Oh you say gif like jiff?

And last picture because this is us as cats during the last month of the DCP.

Skin Care

Hello Karibbean,

I’m going to talk your ear off a bit about skincare. This post comes to you in a few excessively worded parts.

After buying the Luna Night Oil by Sunday Riley (post here), and seeing such a huge difference in what a quality/expensive product can do for my skin, I’ve really become more interested in taking care of my skin and choosing products that are both good for me and good for our little furry friends.

Sunday Riley’s products are made in the USA, they don’t have a parent company, and are 100% cruelty free (and some products are vegan, I believe). I say they don’t have a parent company for reasons: NYX is a “cruelty free” brand, but they’re owned by Loreal, which is a shitty company that likes testing on bunnies. When you purchase anything from NYX, a portion of those profits are going to benefit Loreal. And that sucks.

I really like this website for checking to see if a brand is cruelty free: Cruelty Free Kitty. I just found out, because of them, that REN – a well known prestige, cruelty free skin care brand – was just bought out by a bad parent company. NOT COOL.

I just bought Sunday Riley’s Artemis Oil as a day moisturizer and I’m planning on purchasing Dr. Dennis Gross’s (another cruelty free brand!) mineral SPF spray to layer on top of that. I’m excited for this new skincare journey I’m about to embark on!

Here’s to looking a subtle 30 when I’m 63!

Part two: A review.

yes, that’s a harvey butt

I bought a cleansing oil at TJ Maxx not too long ago called Coast to Coast Ultra Soothing Cleansing Oil – Grapefruit and Geranium. This product is kind of what spurred on my interest in buying better skincare because this product is 1) cheap and 2) sucky. It does the job of getting off my makeup but it made me break out in these little surface bumps – some of which had nothing inside them. I wouldn’t suggest this product and it is going to find a home in my trash.

Part three: I know I’m late to post this, but I had a really weird day yesterday. I will explain why in a private post to you. I’m going to do it as a private post because 1) it’s personal 2) I want to keep this blog as an honest account of what’s going on in my life but I’m not super comfortable sharing the negatives with the world yet because 3) I’m really bad at doing what Margaret Atwood describes as telling the truth slant. I have a very hard time talking about things in a kind way if they make me upset. But hopefully, the more I try – the better  I will become.

That’s it for me! To the furthest star and back,

PS halfway through this post, derpy decided he wanted to sit between me and the computer and I tried to get a Photo Booth picture but IT DIDN’T WORK AND NOW I’M SAD.

PPS books! I finished Voyage of the Basilisk, the third book in the Lady Trent series and it was SO GOOD. I don’t know what book I will move onto next, but if I don’t start one by next week, give me a mini punishment. Which is something I think we should do.

A Birthday Fix

Hiya Steffibun! THANK YOU SO MUCH for my awesome birthday card. I’m glad you made me wait until I woke up on my birthday to read it. I almost choked on my cereal.

My 5th stitch fix is here! I haven’t ordered one in a while, but I thought I’d get myself some new work tops for my birthday. So I specified tops only, no animal prints and loose fit; here’s what I got!

Willard Lace Overlay Blouse from Brixon Ivy
LOVE this.

Shalley Split Neck Blouse from 41Hawthorn
I did ask for colors haha. It looks really nice all dressed up.

Talar Split Neck Top from Skies are Blue
This is super comfy and easy to dress up.

Mavina Floral Print Keyhole Detail Tank from Loveappella
This fits PERFECT. I love the color on me and it’s really soft.

Dawney Scallop Trim Blouse from 41Hawthorn
It’s hard to get a good photo of this one; it’s navy blue. The arm gaps are little big but I couldn’t resist the scallop detail!

And of course they give me a handy guide on how to style everything.

I was incredibly happy with this box, so I purchased everything and got the 25% discount. Happy birthday to me 🙂 If you’re interested in Stitch Fix, here’s my link: https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/4414554

Reading update: The Cuckoo’s Calling pg 147

Four Parts

Hi Keddah,

This post comes to you in four parts.

First, I thought I looked cute today so I took a selfie. I looked like this:

Second, I’ve been editing my wedding pictures and, although I’m not done, you can see the album here: Wedding Day!

I have about 200 pictures to go through and edit, which I will be doing this weekend. Yay!

Third, I finished The Magicians. It was the worst book I’ve ever finished. I wrote a goodreads review on it here: Goodreads Review. Extremely minor spoiler alert warning.

I started reading the third novel in the Lady Trent series and it’s just amazing. I love love love these books. I’m on page 66.

Four, I’m concerned that I may have extra-early onset Alzheimers. Here’s why: Last weekend, we went to Changing Hands. Before going to Changing Hands, I packaged up some books to sell back. What I didn’t realize was that my unfinished book – The Magicians – was packed up with those books. How? I set it on my bookshelf to protect it from the cats while we were gone, stacked books on top of it to sell, and then packed them all into the bag. I called Changing Hands that night and asked them if someone had sold The Magicians to them that day. Someone had. It was me. My business card was in it. I just. I can’t.

To the very furthest star and back,

Monkeys and Things

Hi Steffibun! Today’s post comes to you in four parts.

Part one: happy Chinese New Year! This year it’s the year of the monkey and I know this because there’s lots of crocheted monkeys around.

I made my own too! The pattern was meant for thin yarn but I don’t use thin yarn so my monkey is huge. Lookit his face!

Part two: something that makes me and Grayson very old. We go see movies well after their release date, on Saturdays, in the mornings. Not only is the cost only $12.50, but there’s no one else there and we love it. We went to see The Revenant last Saturday (not recommended, but it’s part of my 101 in 1001 and Leo) and there were only some old people who showed up. We also saw Inside Out on a quiet Saturday morning. Oh! And speaking of movies, you have seen the Martian, right? You have to if you haven’t! We rented it on the PSN and it was totally worth the $6 to stay home and watch it from our couch with pizza.

Part three: is something that was on Dear Hank & John. I love listening to their podcast and on a recent episode they were talking about code-switching. Grayson had to explain it to me:

In linguistics, codeswitching occurs when a speaker alternates between two or more languages, or language varieties, in the context of a single conversation

And he observes me doing this anytime I am around my family. We don this weird accent and say weird things. It’s not something I do consciously, but I love it and I love that we have something unique that brings us together.

Part four: reading updates! Let me just start by saying that so far this year, I finished Felicia’s book and Tyler’s book and I’m starting on a third book. And it’s not even 2 months into the year yet! And those aren’t on my challenge list because I was already reading them beforehand. So I am on track to read FOURTEEN books this year.

Here’s the ones I’m adding to my list based on your suggestions:
A book published before you were born: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
A book chosen by your BFF: Let’s Pretend This Never Happened
A book you can read in a day: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
Currently reading: The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith pg 80

And for your book, Grayson suggests you read Wizard’s First Rule (Sword of Truth series) by Terry Goodkind. I suggest you read it too because he’s been telling me forever to read it and I will, eventually.

Book Challenge

Hello Karibbean,

I’m going to talk about books! We’re doing this challenge together and I will not be able to answer all the categories today because I can’t plan out what I’m going to read BUT I can get some down!

  1. A book published this year: I’ll let Changing Hands decide my fate on this one
  2. A book you can finish in a day: Maybe Lindsey Stirlings book? I might go picture book though!
  3. A book you’ve been meaning to read: All books will qualify for this category.
  4. A book recommended by someone at Changing Hands:
  5. A book you should have read in school: I think I’ll go with Song of Solomon by Toni Morison.
  6. A book chosen by your spouse & one chosen by your BFF: This will force me to read Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, which Andrew is trying to get me to read, plus you can still suggest one!
  7. A book published before you were born: I might go with Watership Down by Richard Adams, another book Andrew wants me to read.
  8. A book that was banned at some point: I’ve never read Go Ask Alice by Anonymous- but I’ve always wanted to – so that one!
  9. A book you own but have never read: We all know that I have plenty to choose from here
  10. A book that intimidates you: I don’t like this one. Books don’t really intimidate me if I’m interested in them. I might make a new category? Help me make one?
  11. A book that you’ve already read once: I just finished illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone so I will count this one done!

1/12 complete!

Let’s update each other on where we’re at in our reading so we can feel ashamed if we say the same thing each week!

Currently Reading : The Magicians by Lev Grossman pg 207!
