Cross stitch!

Hi Kara!

A couple of weeks ago after privately complaining to myself that I didn’t have a cheap hobby, you suggested I start cross stitching (which suggests you have the ability to read my mind). And it so fun!

I placed an order on Amazon for a shit ton of embroidery yarn and a cross stitching starter kit. This was enough to keep me in cross stitching for quite a while (I’m grossly under exaggerating) and it cost me $32. THATS IT! I’ve spent, in total, less than $40 on this hobby and that is going to last me for a ridiculously long time.

LOOK AT ALL THAT FLOSS!!! And the thing is, when you cross stitch, you split one of those strands into three sections. I’m honestly set for life.

Here are two projects I’ve made and two I’m currently working on.

Totoro!

Turnip Head!

Haunted Mansion – the hitchhiking ghost are next!

The beginning of a soot sprite for Alison!

I really enjoy working on these and I can’t wait to keep making more!

And just a reminder everyone – Kara and I will be taking a two week break from this blog because WE’RE LEAVING FOR JAPAN IN 2 DAYS!!! Kara, I’ll see you (on Monday. Physically, I will see you on Monday. In a foreign country. Called Japan. Holy shit. But I’ll see you on the blog) November 7!

DIY Shelves

Hi Keddahbean and Cheese,

Andrew and I did our first DIY project in our new house! I wanted shelves for our bathrooms which don’t have any good towel storage. So instead of buying super expensive shelves, we decided to make our own.

Here’s the finished product and how we made them!

We bought a 2in x 12in x 10ft plank of wood from Home Depot and had them cut that down into 5 24in peices of wood. We sanded and stained the wood, bought some brackets (again from Home Depot), and fixed them to the wall.

For three beautiful shelves, the total cost was less than $24.00 per shelf (minus the cost of any tools you may need to get the project done)! They’re rustic and perfect and I love them so much!

Big thanks to my wonderful husband who assembled these for me. He’s the very best in the whole entire universe =)

Crochet Goals

Hi Steffibun, happy Tuesday night! Sorry I keep teasing you with almost-punishment-worthy posts. But here you go! These are the crochet projects I currently want to start/finish. I say currently, because I change this all the time. And one yarn shopping trip could change all of this because I’ll see a color of yarn and just have to make something with it. No, I don’t have a yarn addiction problem..

Projects to finish

Harry Potter Blanket (crochet-a-long) I’m already way behind because now the group has moved on to their Star Wars blanket (I’m not allowing myself to start it until I finish this one) but I needed a break from the tangled yarn mess that is a graphgan. (Graphghan is an afghan made from following a pixel graph.)
with-colors

Jamie & Ian’s arch scarf. I’ve almost made it past the Gryffindor colors so I can switch to the Ravenclaw colors. Only about 12 more feet to go…everything is fine.

I also have a dancing baby Groot, a flower pot, a pikmin, and Eve in progress right now. This is actually a small amount of things for me to be working on at once. I must really like crocheting! 😛

Loki Fairy Costume Progress

Hi Steffi,

I’m really busy working on my costume for the ren fair this weekend! I’m improving my Loki fairy costume and though I’m sad you probably won’t be joining us, I thought you’d like to see some progress photos!

I’m hand sewing some gold ribbon to my corset that I’ve had for a few years.

I covered my headband in worbla so I can better attach the horns. I’ve still got to sand and paint it.

I was so excited to finally get a dressform! A fabric shop is closing here so I ran to get one. I can’t tell you how much it has helped, I love it!

I can’t wait to see you this weekend! 😄

DIY Harry Potter Wreath

Hi Steffi, I accomplished some goals this weekend! I pretty much ignored what I normally do/need to do on the weekend and I spent my time doing only things that I could cross off my list. Here’s what I did!

#87. Make a wreath
20150927_143458
Thanks for the ideas pinterest! Here’s how I made it:

20150926_131659Materials! I got this stuff for less than $20 and I already had the glasses, time turner, etc.

20150926_132859
I cut strips of tulle about 2 feet long.

I tied the strips of tulle all the way around, alternating colors.

I put some craft glue on the backside to keep the tulle from undoing and sliding around the foam ring. It dries clear!

I put all the details on with craft glue and some sewing pins. TADA!

I also completed:

#63. Make a homemade pizza

#69. Make a dessert in the crock pot. Slow cooker chocolate lava cake

#80. Use a face mask

#56. Make a light box
#59. Floss everyday for a month

Erin Condren Planner, Lush, and Almost Punishments

Kara! I almost forgot to post today!

This post comes to you in three parts, and that was the first one.

Part 2: Erin Condren Life Planner

Mine came in the mail today, along with an Amazon package of 100 full page label stickers! So, of course, I spent my afternoon cutting out stickers for next week!

The front cover says “dftba” and beneath it “plaintartsss.” The colors I chose were light grey and lemon, but if I could do it again I would have chose a darker grey and possibly a darker yellow. Also, I would have capitalized DFTBA. But that can be changed with a purchase of a new cover, if it bothers me enough.

Next week will be my first planned week! I hate that we’re starting off in July (as red, white and blue is my LEAST favorite color combo) but I’ll just go over the colors in pretty stickers if I want. Next week is Disney’s 60th celebration and I hope I get my stickers in time! (Sneaky how I’m not showing you my stickers huh?)

Btw, these stickers are from KGPlanner on etsy. They were $2.00 for PDFs and they are so fun! I will be buying from her shop a lot in the future.

Part 3: Lush

Kara, you know I’m a Lush addict. You don’t work there and LOSE money because you’re mentally stable.

Anyway, they recently launched a product to promote the removal of microbeads in beauty products. The product is called Life is a Beach, and it uses natural exfoliants to give you a lovely scrub! In this case, they take it straight to the beach.

This glorious baby uses sea salt and sand to scrub away your crusty bits and leaves you smelling like vanilla and feeling like a baby. It was $6.95 for a generous amount of scrub and (if it’s still in stock) I think everyone should grab some!

To the very furthest star and back,

Guest Post – Multirotor Mania

MAAANDREW! I am writing you this week because Kara is in need of a little rest from all of the craziness of getting ready for Phoenix Comic-Con.
As you know you got me into this amazing hobby of flying little helicopters/quadcopters/multirotors, this list goes on and on, and we both dreamed of having our own amazing, big, fast, cool ones since we started. Well I am here to tell you that I pulled the trigger and bought an almost-ready-to fly kit.

quad bros

That is pretty much what comes in the kit, shout out to miniquadbros.com for their awesome kit. It really does look like this out of the box with maybe some different colors for straps or something. I highly recommend this kit. It comes with everything you need except your tx/rx and batteries. You will need some tools but really a soldering iron/gun and a hex set will be all you need.

Now I am not going to tell you how to build it, because honestly it’s relatively easy. I will show you before and after of my build tho. 20150504_140022[1] 20150506_191701[1]

There is a piece that goes over the top of everything and protects it but I thought being able to see the innards would be cooler. I have destroyed my hand trying to figure out the issues with wiring and getting the damned thing armed, I have broken about half of the props that I bought (somewhere in the 8-10 range, so far), I have burned out a motor (I blame factory defects), crashed a half dozen times(twice into trees, in AZ, I know), but I honestly have not had this much fin putting something together and then using it. I implore you oh best of friends, as soon as you can, buy one of these.
Then I can crash mine into yours.

Until you and your soon to be bride come visit us I will continue to enjoy this beast of a copter myself.
