Japan Haul

Hi Beans!

Here are some of my favorite things that Andrew and I brought back from Japan!

First things first, Gudetama. He was a little capsule toy and he hangs on our fridge. We really love his butt crack.

Pikachu dressed like MARIO! He’s so cute and perfect and we happened to be in Japan on the day he released.

You didn’t expect us to just get Mario? Of course not, his brother is incredible.

My Hakuhodo brushes. My prized possessions. So prized that I can’t handle using them. It’s a sickness.

My Japanese Harry Potter books! I only got 1-3 because I didn’t want to carry back more than that. I also got Quidditch Through the Ages, Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Tales of Beetle the Bard.

My Totoro music box! This is one of my favorite things in the world. LISTEN!

And last but not least, never least, the most incredible perfect thing to have ever entered my life…

Mr. Wah-seebs himself. My one true love.

I MISS JAPAN LET’S GO BACK AND NEVER COME HOME OKAY?

P.S. I know I’m a day late. Punish me if we’re still doing that.

Happy Belated Birthday

To 2 of my favorite people, Harry Potter and JK Rowling!

Hi Steffi! Their birthday was on Sunday and we spent the first few minutes of the day together at the Cursed Child book release. It was a sort of lackluster evening (mostly due to the butterbeer that was only beer and no butter), but we spent it together. Here’s some celebratory Harry Potter things that I find awesome. Escape from Privet Drive is a virtual race. It’s 50 miles from Surrey to King’s Cross. I’m thinking about registering so I can reap the benefits of this, fitbit and PokemonGO at the same time. Efficiency.

First things first. WE SAW AN OWL!!
20160520_193628.jpg

We got to hang out with Christowaffle, who made 4 attempts to take a photo that I demanded and ended up with this masterpiece:Share from Pixlr

We reminisced about the night that changed our lives:

We saw another Hank Green concert, where we were absolutely living when we got to sing along to Everybody.

I gave Katherine a Hanklerfish.

We finally got to experience a Harry & the Potters concert TOGETHER. This means so much to me. And don’t mind me, I’ll be listening to them for a solid straight month now.

25 Things Every HP Fan Did Before Deathly Hallows Was Released

Hi Steffibun,

Last night I saw Andrew Sim’s post from Buzzfeed “25 Things Every Harry Potter Fan Did Before Deathly Hallows Was Released” and I said YASSS to so many of them I wanted to show you with my own pictures.

#1. You obsessively reread every book, combing for information you might have missed on the previous read through.
This is obvious.

#2. To the point where all your books looked like this.

20160315_184729.jpg

I barely dare open this one because the spine has split.

#3. Midnight book releases were your jam.
207497_4914833390_2714_n206357_4914863390_6654_n.jpg

#5. And you definitely slept on the street at least once for a movie premiere, if you were close enough to one.

#6. Your bedroom was wallpapered with posters from the films.
Cue Harry Potter wall from baby Kara’s bedroom!

#7. In fact, your whole room was a shrine dedicated to the series.

Yes I hung a wand from my ceiling.

229320_5893018390_5871_n.jpg

I took a 6 foot holographic poster from a theater.

#8. You’d spend hours clicking through J.K. Rowling’s website trying to find clues.
This was my life during Christmas break!

#9. And Mugglenet was your homepage so you’d be up to date 100% of the time.
It is still my homepage..

#10. Movie marathons were a common occurrence at your house.
Correction, they ARE.

#11. And of course, you’d accompany the films with themed snacks.
We made pumpkin pasties and butterbeer for our Harry Potter class in college.

#12. You bought any kind of merchandise you could get your hands on.
221675_5893308390_3747_n

#13. You spent hours assembling intricate Hogwarts Lego sets.
No. But playing the Lego Harry Potter games, yes.

#15. You frequently visited dumbledoreisnotdead.com, reading so far into every theory that came along.
Also the unplottables LiveJournal.

#16. You got super into role playing on various online forums.
Hogwarts Is Home LiveJournal!! Also, Neopets guilds, so many Neopets guilds.
x-all-the-things-template

#17. After Half-Blood Prince came out, you theorised non-stop about Snape’s loyalties.
Whilst in tears.
omg sad.gif

#18. You spent a lot of time writing or reading unhealthy levels of fanfiction.
Harry Potter and the Amulet of Time! ❤

#19. You listened to Mugglecast so much that you got to the point where you considered Andrew, Ben, Kevin, Eric, Micah, and all the rest of the gang to be your friends.
They’re all I listened to during long vacation car rides to Mexico and California.

#20. If you lived in the right area, you went to all the fan conventions.
Or not, I went to one in Florida.

LeakyCon 2011

#21. And if you lived too far or your parents didn’t let you go, you’d just look at photos on the internet and be sad.
I remember when I missed out on Azkatraz.

#22. You made so many online friends who shared your undying love for the series.
Just friends in general. You know who you are.

#23. If you weren’t in a Wrock band, you sure listened to a lot of it.

Harry & the Potters concert 2013

#25. But mainly, your time was spent waiting impatiently for the next book release, so you could devour it in a few hours and repeat the whole cycle.

Sorting Disorder

Hi Steffi,

I’m still reeling in my results from taking the sorting hat quiz again last night. I mean, how does one identify as a Hufflepuff and somehow get this:

Untitled1

And you in Ravenclaw, TWICE? I took it again today and I was sorted into Ravenclaw too. Again. But since I’m a Huffleclaw, I guess this is alright. When will the universe agree with me that I’m a Hufflepuff dammit.

Untitled

Who else has taken this irreparable test? What absurd result did you get?

DIY Harry Potter Wreath

Hi Steffi, I accomplished some goals this weekend! I pretty much ignored what I normally do/need to do on the weekend and I spent my time doing only things that I could cross off my list. Here’s what I did!

#87. Make a wreath
20150927_143458
Thanks for the ideas pinterest! Here’s how I made it:

20150926_131659Materials! I got this stuff for less than $20 and I already had the glasses, time turner, etc.

20150926_132859
I cut strips of tulle about 2 feet long.

collage
I tied the strips of tulle all the way around, alternating colors.

20150926_193002
I put some craft glue on the backside to keep the tulle from undoing and sliding around the foam ring. It dries clear!

20150927_143508
I put all the details on with craft glue and some sewing pins. TADA!

I also completed:

#63. Make a homemade pizza
20150926_180813

#69. Make a dessert in the crock pot. Slow cooker chocolate lava cake
20150926_213025

#80. Use a face mask
20150926_201712

Other things I was able to cross off recently:
#41. Make a fungeon. This was “man cave” before but our fungeon is so much cooler.
#56. Make a light box
#59. Floss everyday for a month
#60. Rewatch Lost
#65. Keep up a regular workout schedule
#79. Get a massage
#84. Go to a beach
IMG_9522

I’m now over halfway done with just under a year to go!

End Date: August 23, 2016
Progress: 54/101

Goals to be completed next:
#8. Read a new book every year. Just one more to go!
#11. Make 10 recipes from pinterest. (8/10)
#15. Try 5 new foods (4/5)
#23. Start a pay it forward in a coffee drive thru
#28. Have a Hunger Games movie marathon
#68. Go to 3 states we’ve never been to. (I’ve never been to Nevada!)
#86. Try quilling

September First & Peanut Butter Face

Steffi, it’s September 1st and I have to get to Hogwarts today, I just have to. I mean, Jo is just begging us to go.

Want to join me?! By now, the train has already come and gone at King’s Cross Station so we’ll have to find another way. I’m going to suggest ways we can finally achieve our lifelong goal while I’m smearing sticky peanut butter all over my face. This better do wonders for my complexion.

Behold: our first punishment video!

8 Year Anniversary

Hi Steffi, do you know what today is?

It’s been 8 years since Deathly Hallows was released.

I always feel a sense of great weight on July 21st. It’s usually very sad. It was fun waiting in line and playing games with my best friend. It was exciting first reading the book I had waited years for. It was on the back of my mind that the end was near as I read it, but I had the story to keep me going. I remember all the good things about that entire experience. But now I am sad because it was the end and it’s already happened. Eight years ago.

A huge part of my life had ended a few days later when I finished reading. But I didn’t know then the amazing experience I would have taking a Harry Potter class in college and meeting you. I didn’t know then I would actually be going to Hogwarts and Hogsmeade and witnessing magic with my boyfriend-turned-husband. I didn’t know then that I would travel thousands of miles to watch the final book on screen with thousands of other wizards and share a week full of memories with at LeakyCon.

It’s never really ended. And Hogwarts will always be my home and I can go whenever I want because Jo told me I could. And continues to tell me. On twitter.

Thanks Jo, for everything.

BRB I’m going to go read Harry Potter for the 374857th time.

Japanese Harry Potter Books!!!

Hi Steffi, So my husband is the absolute best and got me the most perfect present for our 2 year anniversary. He got me a complete set of Japanese Harry Potter Books!! My collection just leveled up!

001013

Books 4-7 were split into two books each and each got their own cover art.

010 012

I can’t wait to inspect every inch of them. I’ve looked through a few of them and found there’s chapter art! These are a couple of my favorites:

003 005 006

The chapters are listed in English at the top of the page, but everything else is in Kanji. It’s interesting to see how they translate what I assume is yelling or newspaper text; some of the text I came across was bolded and in a bigger font size with teeny tiny font next to it. I really want to learn Japanese!

002 004

I even found some inserts in a couple of the books. One of them looks like an advertisement for the rest of the series, another looks like a visual guide to better explain things that probably don’t translate well? There’s drawings of Quidditch and gnome tossing and Dobby with a sock.

007 009 008

It’s safe to assume that gifting me Harry Potter books will always make me extremely happy 😀
