New Vanity and What I Kept

Hi Karabean!

I’ve recently redone my vanity and I had a massive clear out of all my makeup. So here is my new organizational setup and all the makeup that I kept!

Enter the Fungeon

Hi Steffi! We inherited another desk! So last weekend was room rearranging time. We definitely needed a real desk, we were using 5 mismatched tables and I had the top of Grayson’s desk on my desk. It was a mess.

My corner before.

Here’s my corner all cleared out.

I get to use the new one! I lost a few drawers but I gained the cabinets and storage on top. I’m still using the random table, but it’s just for my light box so it’s not taking up room on my desk.

We gave Grayson my desk. I’m so excited his computer wires are against the wall now!

We both sacrificed a little surface space, but it feels more open AND it’s symmetrical now which makes me very happy.

See you this weekend!

Adulting: Home Furnishing Edition

Hi Karibbean,

I have adulted recently, and I wanted to show you what I did! I bought expensive furniture that will last me a lot longer and looks a lot better than Ikea furniture!

What sparked this was a need for a new dresser. I got mine when I was in middle/high school and it’s been with me ever since. I was not kind to this dresser when I was young. I used to hoard clothing inside it and stuff it so full that if you opened the top drawer, you opened all of the drawers – as the bottoms were so bowed that they would catch on the next drawer down. This dresser deserved a better life. Hopefully it will find one with it’s next home (cuz I donated it, that was the adult(hehheh) thing to do).

So I bought this stunningly beautiful dresser from Living Spaces. It’s a solid wood piece so it’s going to last me a million years and it’s very versatile. Depending on the lighting/what it’s surrounded by, the color of the piece changes from brown to grey. The top shelves are lined in velvet. I’m actually in love.

We knew we wanted to buy another piece for the house when we bought the dresser because Living Spaces was having a killer offer – 0% interest for 12 months if you spent over $1000.00. So we knew we were going to buy something else and we finally decided on this beauty.

We needed a new love seat for our living room because the one we had before was a recliner, and like all recliners, it broke. And quickly. All of our guests hated the couch, we hated the couch, and we are very happy with our new one! It’s lovely and comfy and has a beautiful grey herringbone pattern.

Next item, which was purchased this month instead of last month(ish – I’ve been hoarding this post clearly), was a new vanity! I bought this one from Wayfair and it’s just. I am in love. I did a massive cleanout of my vanity and makeup and threw away everything that was or could possibly be expired. I threw away a Trader Joes bag FULL of makeup. I’m both proud and disgusted. But now that I have this new set up, I feel inspired to do my makeup more! Yay!

These next few years I’m going to dedicate a bit of my wallet to redecorating my house. I’m excited!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my beautiful, flamboyant sunfish.

PS I really am pants at this. I finished the Labyrinth of Drakes and it was wonderful! But it seemed a bit more rushed than her other novels and that made me a bit sad. I gave it a 5/5 on Goodreads but in my heart it was a 4.5 maybe even a 4. I am now reading Mistborn, which is the book that Andrew is demanding that I read.

PPS you never picked out a book for me to read. Tell me what I have to read woman!

DIY Shelves

Hi Keddahbean and Cheese,

Andrew and I did our first DIY project in our new house! I wanted shelves for our bathrooms which don’t have any good towel storage. So instead of buying super expensive shelves, we decided to make our own.

Here’s the finished product and how we made them!

We bought a 2in x 12in x 10ft plank of wood from Home Depot and had them cut that down into 5 24in peices of wood. We sanded and stained the wood, bought some brackets (again from Home Depot), and fixed them to the wall.

For three beautiful shelves, the total cost was less than $24.00 per shelf (minus the cost of any tools you may need to get the project done)! They’re rustic and perfect and I love them so much!

Big thanks to my wonderful husband who assembled these for me. He’s the very best in the whole entire universe =)

New Laundry Room – Before & After

Hi Steffi, one of my 101 in 1001 goals was to complete a home project. The yoga room is almost done, but the project we started over a year ago is now basically done. I say basically because it’s not pretty, but I do have a laundry room IN the house now. We had to make a new doorway, re-wire some electrical, insulate the walls, hang new drywall, and move the washer and dryer. It was quite the project!

Untitled

Before. The only way in was through this door in the backyard. The bedroom door is right there also, but that was three doors to go through to do laundry!

There’s the old entry door where you got in from outside, behind these helpful men!

They ripped off the old drywall/pegboard and found no plumbing lines through where we wanted the new door. Woo!

Figuring out measurements for the new door. That was legitimately my dad’s shopping list. On a piece of wood. Not gunna lie, I didn’t have much to do with this project other than documentation haha.

Derp! Look at this puppy! He was trying to be helpful. We covered up this old dryer vent hole and made a new one on the other side of the room where the dryer would be.

Here’s the huge blank wall in the kitchen where the new doorway was going to be.

Grayson vacuumed the dust as my dad was cutting out the drywall. This was very helpful as it didn’t make a big mess in my kitchen!

Yay doorway!

After

We still wanted to cover up the old doorway so we took the door out and put a piece of siding on the outside.

They insulated everything and put up new drywall. Right next to the dryer is where the old door was. We added a spare bit of carpet so it wasn’t just concrete flooring.

After! I even have shelving. And the kitty box no longer has to be in the kitchen. I got a little cabinet unit for my birthday as well that will go in here once Grayson helps me put it together. There’s not a whole lot of space so my parents bought cabinets that were only a foot deep, but I can put cleaning supplies and leftover paint cans in there!

It may not be pretty, but it’s functional and it’s accessible from inside the house so I’ve been very happy with it! A huge thank you to the wonderful men in my life! ❤

Less Is So Much More

Hi Steffi, this post comes to you in three parts. And will probably make you think I’ve gone slightly overboard.

Part 1: LIFE IS BETTER WITH LESS STUFF.  I’m on a constant mission to make our life less cluttered. I hate when every possible surface is covered in stuff. We have too much. I watched missglamorazzi’s living with less video and although I already try to do this occasionally, it inspired me to really want to go through the whole house. The less I have the easier it is to clean, relax, and focus on the important things. If something isn’t directly causing us happiness, there’s really no reason to have it. This also means we have to stop getting stuff. Grayson and I are very lucky to have what we have. But owning a house doesn’t mean we need to fill it with everything! I want to be more conscious of what we bring home because if it doesn’t have a place, its place becomes the kitchen counter. And I HATE when things are on the kitchen counter.

Part 2: THE PLAN. I went through my closet last week and filled a bag of clothes for donation. I should have had before pictures, I mean really. Anyway, I’m going to make my way around the house making donate piles, throw away, and reorganize piles. It helps to tackle just one area at a time or you’ll get exhausted real fast. I like to ask myself when I’m deciding on keeping something, “Does this make me happy?” It’s pretty easy to get rid of things after that. I’ll be instagraming all the stuff I’m getting rid of so you can see the mountain of excess stuff we have. Part of this process does include us getting a few more things, but they are things that will make us happy and add value to our lives. Like getting a full size bed for our spare bedroom so our friends and family can visit us and not have to sleep on a futon ;). I have to make room for the bed first, but you see how this will work. Getting rid of the excess so we can be happier with less and add things of value.

Part 3: PUNISHMENTS. As you saw last night on instagram, I am torturing myself by attempting to beat the evil gold blob boss on Pikmin 3. I’ve killed about 200 pikmin so far and have already spent 5 days. Grayson was pretty amused by my constant gasps, screams, and whining. I’ll play it every night this week until I beat it! You truly are the worst.

A New Yoga Room Floor!

HiSteffiItsTuesdayyy

My awesome husband made me a new floor for my birthday! Yes, a floor. Remember my yoga room? It hasn’t really been used for yoga lately; it hasn’t been used for anything really except it’s where Midna looks out the window. It’s difficult to do yoga on carpet – really bad for your wrists and things – so I needed hard flooring. Grayson bought flooring at Costco in arcadia sunset and followed the instructions on the box, easy peasy! Well, he won’t say the same, but nevermind that.

Here’s the room before

image

Underneath all that carpet was horrible vinyl! Grayson hacked at it for a couple hours before it was all gone.

image

image

He put down a moisture (ew) barrier first and then started piecing the wood panels together. The barrier didn’t reach all the way across the room, so he just made sure the uncovered part was along the inside wall because here in AZ there’s hardly any risk of water coming up from the ground.

image

Apparently there was a fair bit of finger smashing during this part.
image

Aaaand done!
image

Well almost. Still have to do the baseboards and right up to the door but look at it! What a difference, I have a yoga studio! I’ll show you a picture once I’ve got it all set up 🙂
