See you on the other side

Steffibuns, next time I see you we will be in Japan! I still don’t believe it. I am excited for many things but I am mostly excited to share such an awesome experience with friends! I wish we could take all of our friends with us. They will just have to live through our many photos that we will take. Most of them will look like this:

Look at these lucky kids! Expect many photos like this also. All the excited faces.

Then soon after, we will get to be a part of yet another nerdfighter wedding because these two goons are getting married, Harry Potter style.

I am so grateful and my heart is full thinking about all of this! See you on the other side of the world! 😉

The only thing I am not excited about: leaving these behind.

Nerdfighteria Again

Steffi, last weekend was one of the greatest. I am so thankful for Nerfighteria, for John and Hank, and for the awesome that founded our friendship.

First things first. WE SAW AN OWL!!

We got to hang out with Christowaffle, who made 4 attempts to take a photo that I demanded and ended up with this masterpiece:Share from Pixlr

We reminisced about the night that changed our lives:

We saw another Hank Green concert, where we were absolutely living when we got to sing along to Everybody.

I gave Katherine a Hanklerfish.

We finally got to experience a Harry & the Potters concert TOGETHER. This means so much to me. And don’t mind me, I’ll be listening to them for a solid straight month now.

DFTBA

Reading update: I’ll be flying to Indiana this weekend, I promise I’ll bring my kindle and read!

Nerdfighteria

Good Morning Karabean,

I’m sitting on your couch right now. Meta.

Last night we went to a Hank Green concert. It was like this:

We got to the concert and took this adorable but grainey picture.

This picture was taken just after giving WheezyWaiter a high five.

Then, we saw this incredible musician play on an eightstring guitar. It was possibly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. Every one of us had our mouths open – entirely dumbfounded by what he could do. His name is Rob Scallion and he’s on YouTube. He was also the drummer for two other bands that night.

Then we wrocked out with Harry and the Potters. I’ve forgotten how incredibly wonderful and fun their shows are and how awesome the community that surrounds them is. I won’t forget that again and I can’t wait to go to another show!

Then Jon Watson showed up and I felt personally attacked.

And then we saw Hank. And it was wonderful.

We were sitting in the back, of course, like old people and it felt so good seeing this new generation of Nerdfighters signing every word back to Hank. That used to be us. We used to be in the front row – singing back every line. And it was heartwarming to know that although Nerdfighteria has changed – it’s still good.

And as they say in our hometown,

Don’t forget to be awesome.

Monkeys and Things

Hi Steffibun! Today’s post comes to you in four parts.

Part one: happy Chinese New Year! This year it’s the year of the monkey and I know this because there’s lots of crocheted monkeys around.

I made my own too! The pattern was meant for thin yarn but I don’t use thin yarn so my monkey is huge. Lookit his face!

Part two: something that makes me and Grayson very old. We go see movies well after their release date, on Saturdays, in the mornings. Not only is the cost only $12.50, but there’s no one else there and we love it. We went to see The Revenant last Saturday (not recommended, but it’s part of my 101 in 1001 and Leo) and there were only some old people who showed up. We also saw Inside Out on a quiet Saturday morning. Oh! And speaking of movies, you have seen the Martian, right? You have to if you haven’t! We rented it on the PSN and it was totally worth the $6 to stay home and watch it from our couch with pizza.

Part three: is something that was on Dear Hank & John. I love listening to their podcast and on a recent episode they were talking about code-switching. Grayson had to explain it to me:

In linguistics, codeswitching occurs when a speaker alternates between two or more languages, or language varieties, in the context of a single conversation

And he observes me doing this anytime I am around my family. We don this weird accent and say weird things. It’s not something I do consciously, but I love it and I love that we have something unique that brings us together.

Part four: reading updates! Let me just start by saying that so far this year, I finished Felicia’s book and Tyler’s book and I’m starting on a third book. And it’s not even 2 months into the year yet! And those aren’t on my challenge list because I was already reading them beforehand. So I am on track to read FOURTEEN books this year.

Here’s the ones I’m adding to my list based on your suggestions:
A book published before you were born: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
A book chosen by your BFF: Let’s Pretend This Never Happened
A book you can read in a day: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
0/12
Currently reading: The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith pg 80

And for your book, Grayson suggests you read Wizard’s First Rule (Sword of Truth series) by Terry Goodkind. I suggest you read it too because he’s been telling me forever to read it and I will, eventually.

The TeeVee

Hi Steffi, it’s October! And that means I have way too many tv shows to watch. This reminds me of the Dear Hank & John where someone asked how to prioritize your media consumption. It’s pretty much impossible with so many shows, youtube videos, movies, books, and articles. So I’m going to take Hank’s dubious advice and just fully enjoy the things I am consuming and not worry about the things I’m missing out on. So here are the teevee shows I’ll be enjoying this season!

An Equivalent…Or Something

SO STEFFI. I took the Nerdfighter 2015 census the a couple weeks ago. Do you even fill that out? Because I do. I was so excited waiting for Hank’s COMPLETE ANALYSIS video because I watched the entire thing last year and I wasn’t bored at all. You’d probably get bored. So that got me thinking; I’m the Hank in our relationship. And you’re John.

REASONS:
You have puff levels for days.
I get excited about the census analysis video. DATA!
You love books.
I’m science-y, you’re not.
You aren’t opposed to reading poetry.

(I’m reading this prematurely and so true. I’ve been listening to Hank and John (the podcast) and, if I’m honest with myself, I’m the gross one (John) and you’re the wonderful one (Hank).) -Steffi

See?! Amirite?

My_Pretty_Seahorse_06

Aaaaand the only other reason I can think of now is the opposite:
I like a sport called football.

So I guess what I’m saying is we’re different individuals who are different than another set of different individuals. This post doesn’t make sense. But imma post it anyways. Happy Tuesday!

And like we say in our hometown, don’t forget to be awesome.

Disneyland Trip!

Hi Steffi,

This is an account of my second trip of the year. It was Kyle’s birthday trip even though it was over a month late. We met up with Katie and Andrew and began our 15 hour adventure!

collage

We started in DCA and made our round there in an hour and half. We spun around on Mater’s ride first; it has a fun, look-at-the-goat kind of feeling to it. We checked out Arendelle and I showed him the crappy sno-cone snow. We battled on Toy Story Mania where Kyle boasted about his accuracy. Goofy’s Sky School is always fun terrifying with your eyes closed. We tried racing cars for a second time, but it shut down and we got to walk off! Lastly was Grizzly River Rapids, always good for a rush of water between your legs from the sneaky holes in the bottom of the raft. Katie & Andrew didn’t brave this part so they left us to do some wedding stuff and we’d see them later.

Our day was going great so far. We went over to Disneyland and checked out the improved Alice; three cheers for creepy Alice being gone! We hovered around the castle for a bit, looking at all the decorations for the 60th. DEAR GOD HELP ME, I HEARD A CHILD SAY, “THAT’S ELSA’S CASTLE!” “YES, THAT’S RIGHT.” REPLIED HER FATHER. Oh how I could have been so evil and a real asshat just then! I wish you had been there to do it for me.

We rarely wait in the Indy line, but we did and it broke down. We waited for 15 minutes and it started working again, we sat down in the 3rd row seats, aaaand it broke again. The people next to us were having similar luck with their day, so I did a bit of magic and gave them our Cars passes we’d received when we walked off the ride. They were pretty happy 🙂 Two hours after getting in line,we finally got Indy over with and found Katie & Andrew (they had been trying to find us while we were stuck). I stepped in some gum, we waited in a really long Space line, Katie & Andrew were being cute, Kyle braved a new pose on Splash Mountain and I finally ate a corndog in my corndog Hank shirt.

It was a really great day. Happy birthday Kyle! And thanks, Walt!
