Crafting Storage!

Hi Beans,

As you know, I’m convinced I’ve got the tiny chickens. I have no desire to do anything other than lay on the floor and try my best to absorb into the floor.

Which is partially why I forgot to post yesterday.

So here is a glimpse into what little I was able to accomplish this weekend #drama.

I bought these little containers for like $2.50 at Michaels. They’re great for storing embroidery floss!

Please notice that nine and six are perfect opposites of each other. Please also notice that I had 996 also in my haul, and the panic that ensued.

First, I cut the color number and tape it to the plastic. Then I write the number on both sides of the top of the plastic… thingie.

Give it a wrap and voila!

I put all my DMC yarn into this container – these are for specific massive projects that I’ll be working on this year.

These are organized by project.

This next container is for my huge thing of floss I bought when I first started cross stitching. I had a bunch of lose bundles that were driving me mad. This is a much better solution. They’re organized by color.

I hope you’ve had a great weekend Beans! ❤

New Planner

Hi Keddahbean and Cheese,

I got a new planner! The Erin Condren was just too big and heavy and I stopped using it in January. So I bought this one from Target. It’s exactly what I need and it was something like 12 doll hairs. Much better than Erin’s $50.

So pretty!

Teeny Tiny stickers are from WisheeWashiPaperCo

Hair apt? I wonder what I’m doing…

I love this planner so far! I might buy a new one in Januart, because I prefer Jan-Dec layouts – but this will more than do the job until then!

❤ hope you’re having fun in CO!

Shopping Spree: A New Bag

Hello Bean,

I bought a new bag! But Steffibun, you just bought such a cute and wonderful bag from Modcloth. Yes, Keddahbean, you’re correct. But that cute and wonderful bag’s shoulder strap broke, which caused me much heartbreak. When I contacted Modcloth’s customer service to tell them what happened, they didn’t have any stock of the bag (it’s back in stock now of course) and just refunded me the cost of the bag. Which was kind – but I was a bit sad. So I decided to buy a new bag when I found one I liked. And I did. At Target. For 36 doll hairs.

She so pretty

She’s so roomy

I love this bag so much. And since I’m only ever wearing neutrals again (fuck colors), this bag goes perfectly with my non-aesthetic.

❤ See you Tuesday!

Enter the Fungeon

Hi Steffi! We inherited another desk! So last weekend was room rearranging time. We definitely needed a real desk, we were using 5 mismatched tables and I had the top of Grayson’s desk on my desk. It was a mess.

My corner before.

Here’s my corner all cleared out.

I get to use the new one! I lost a few drawers but I gained the cabinets and storage on top. I’m still using the random table, but it’s just for my light box so it’s not taking up room on my desk.

We gave Grayson my desk. I’m so excited his computer wires are against the wall now!

We both sacrificed a little surface space, but it feels more open AND it’s symmetrical now which makes me very happy.

See you this weekend!

Books

Dear Future Kara,

Should you ever find that I’m performing the task described in this next section – please refer to this blog post and proceed as directed.

If you ever find that I’ve sold any of the books in my possession in lieu of getting more bookshelves, please proceed to beat me upside the head with said books while you escort me to Ikea to buy bookshelves and DO NOT REST until the bookshelves are built. You may only stop bludgeoning me with books when you kindly place them on their newly built home.

Please note: Selling shit books to Changing Hands/an independent bookstore for money to buy new and exciting books is 100% okay.

Thanks!

Hi Current Kara,

When we moved into our apartment, I just wanted to get my books out of boxes – so there was no organization done whatsoever. They were basically thrown on the shelves and wherever they stuck, they stayed. And it’s been driving me crazy.

So, I’ve organized my bookshelves into six distinct categories: Classics (books I didn’t read because my school told me I had to/books I purchased at Bookmans to seem cool and educated but never really intended on reading/books I eventually read once I got my head out of my ass), the book shelves of shame (books I’ve bought and never read and may never read if I’m honest with myself but aren’t technically classics), books I’ve read in my life, books I’ve read THIS year, coffee table/food/Walt Disney books, and books I have an interest in reading soon.

And although I’ve stacked books and stacked books in front of stacked books, there is still the very real concern that I may need a third bookshelf in the very near future. And when I get that bookshelf, imma buy three and put them BEHIND my couch. Because a) how cool would that look? b) the bottom shelves where no one can see? secret storage for secret stuff. c) excuse to buy more books. Or at least I’ll feel less guilty cuz they’re not all cramped like sardines. BOOKS NEED BREATHING SPACE OKAY.

Okay bye current Kara,

Erin Condren Planner, Lush, and Almost Punishments

Kara! I almost forgot to post today!

This post comes to you in three parts, and that was the first one.

Part 2: Erin Condren Life Planner

Mine came in the mail today, along with an Amazon package of 100 full page label stickers! So, of course, I spent my afternoon cutting out stickers for next week!

The front cover says “dftba” and beneath it “plaintartsss.” The colors I chose were light grey and lemon, but if I could do it again I would have chose a darker grey and possibly a darker yellow. Also, I would have capitalized DFTBA. But that can be changed with a purchase of a new cover, if it bothers me enough.

Next week will be my first planned week! I hate that we’re starting off in July (as red, white and blue is my LEAST favorite color combo) but I’ll just go over the colors in pretty stickers if I want. Next week is Disney’s 60th celebration and I hope I get my stickers in time! (Sneaky how I’m not showing you my stickers huh?)

Btw, these stickers are from KGPlanner on etsy. They were $2.00 for PDFs and they are so fun! I will be buying from her shop a lot in the future.

Part 3: Lush

Kara, you know I’m a Lush addict. You don’t work there and LOSE money because you’re mentally stable.

Anyway, they recently launched a product to promote the removal of microbeads in beauty products. The product is called Life is a Beach, and it uses natural exfoliants to give you a lovely scrub! In this case, they take it straight to the beach.

This glorious baby uses sea salt and sand to scrub away your crusty bits and leaves you smelling like vanilla and feeling like a baby. It was $6.95 for a generous amount of scrub and (if it’s still in stock) I think everyone should grab some!

To the very furthest star and back,

Less Is So Much More

Hi Steffi, this post comes to you in three parts. And will probably make you think I’ve gone slightly overboard.

Part 1: LIFE IS BETTER WITH LESS STUFF.  I’m on a constant mission to make our life less cluttered. I hate when every possible surface is covered in stuff. We have too much. I watched missglamorazzi’s living with less video and although I already try to do this occasionally, it inspired me to really want to go through the whole house. The less I have the easier it is to clean, relax, and focus on the important things. If something isn’t directly causing us happiness, there’s really no reason to have it. This also means we have to stop getting stuff. Grayson and I are very lucky to have what we have. But owning a house doesn’t mean we need to fill it with everything! I want to be more conscious of what we bring home because if it doesn’t have a place, its place becomes the kitchen counter. And I HATE when things are on the kitchen counter.

Part 2: THE PLAN. I went through my closet last week and filled a bag of clothes for donation. I should have had before pictures, I mean really. Anyway, I’m going to make my way around the house making donate piles, throw away, and reorganize piles. It helps to tackle just one area at a time or you’ll get exhausted real fast. I like to ask myself when I’m deciding on keeping something, “Does this make me happy?” It’s pretty easy to get rid of things after that. I’ll be instagraming all the stuff I’m getting rid of so you can see the mountain of excess stuff we have. Part of this process does include us getting a few more things, but they are things that will make us happy and add value to our lives. Like getting a full size bed for our spare bedroom so our friends and family can visit us and not have to sleep on a futon ;). I have to make room for the bed first, but you see how this will work. Getting rid of the excess so we can be happier with less and add things of value.

Part 3: PUNISHMENTS. As you saw last night on instagram, I am torturing myself by attempting to beat the evil gold blob boss on Pikmin 3. I’ve killed about 200 pikmin so far and have already spent 5 days. Grayson was pretty amused by my constant gasps, screams, and whining. I’ll play it every night this week until I beat it! You truly are the worst.

DIY: Creating My 2015 Moleskin Planner/Moleskin Hack

Hello Karabean,

TOMORROW BEGINS MY BIRTHMONTH!!! Also, it’s the day where you and I gather around our Office Max/Staples bags and lift our new babies into the air : our 2015 planners!! The cherubs drop down, the spotlight shines in a neat triangle, there’s glitter and angels singing, etc, etc.

This year, I decided to go Moleskin because the brand I used to buy at Target IS NO MORE. And so, I asked my wonderful soon-to-be mother-in-law for two moleskin planners for Christmas. That’s right. Two. Because I’m nuts. And here’s my reasoning – WITH PICTURES.
