Four Parts

Hi Keddah,

This post comes to you in four parts.

First, I thought I looked cute today so I took a selfie. I looked like this:

Second, I’ve been editing my wedding pictures and, although I’m not done, you can see the album here: Wedding Day!

I have about 200 pictures to go through and edit, which I will be doing this weekend. Yay!

Third, I finished The Magicians. It was the worst book I’ve ever finished. I wrote a goodreads review on it here: Goodreads Review. Extremely minor spoiler alert warning.

I started reading the third novel in the Lady Trent series and it’s just amazing. I love love love these books. I’m on page 66.

Four, I’m concerned that I may have extra-early onset Alzheimers. Here’s why: Last weekend, we went to Changing Hands. Before going to Changing Hands, I packaged up some books to sell back. What I didn’t realize was that my unfinished book – The Magicians – was packed up with those books. How? I set it on my bookshelf to protect it from the cats while we were gone, stacked books on top of it to sell, and then packed them all into the bag. I called Changing Hands that night and asked them if someone had sold The Magicians to them that day. Someone had. It was me. My business card was in it. I just. I can’t.

Wedding Details: The Dress

Hi Keddah,

Today I want to talk about the dress!

I got my dress last… February? At a place in Phoenix called Strut Bridal Salon. They’re specialists in plus size bridal gowns, and I found them at the Arizona Bridal Show. Funnily enough, I was walking around the booths during some down time at the summer show in 2014, complaining that there were no places that specialized or even had gowns for plus size women, when someone kindly pointed out that the booth DIRECTLY BEHIND MINE was for Strut. I ran over there like the devil himself was going to snatch up all of their stock before I made an appointment, and it was the best decision I could have ever made.

Strut was a godsend for me. I was so nervous about going dress shopping and not being able to fit into any of the dresses in stock, or having to do additional prep work to let the salons know I was plus sized. All of the dresses I tried on fit me, I never once felt less or unworthy or any of the horrible things that plus size women can feel at bridal shops. I had an amazing time and I would recommend them and Angel (the woman who helped me pick out my dress) to any plus size woman ANYWHERE. Come from far and wide, it is so worth it.

With me that day was my mom, Kara (maid of honor), Kelsi (other maid of honor), and Katherine (hair dresser and favorite human). First thing we did was try on a cupcake dress, just as a laugh. And that dress became my dress! We tried on a few more, and I actually ended up going with a more elaborately detailed 40’s style dress, but by the next day I knew I had made a mistake and they allowed me to purchase the first cupcake dress instead.

From there, I took the dress to Janet Kirkman for alterations. We had so many visits with her, but she understood my vision and she was absolutely amazing. We shortened it considerably, made the bodice smaller, and added additional boning to bust. My dress wouldn’t be my dress without her. I would recommend her to any future bride – and her prices were also incredibly reasonable!

And then we have the final dress! Tea length, very 50-60’s with the cardigan, and I have never felt more beautiful in my life. I genuinely felt like a princess. And I fully intend to wear it again someday. 1 year wedding anniversary??? Is that too soon? Eh, who’s gonna stop me?

I Got Married

Hi Kara,

Last Thursday, I got married. I am now a wife. I really didn’t think this would make much of a change in me; Andrew and I have been together for 6 years now, but I keep saying to myself “I’m a wife” and that new identity is pretty exciting/weird/happy making. It’s weird that it’s official, but weird in the best sort of way.

This is the best one I have of just us. Better to come!

I’m not the best at 1) having feelings that I can talk about in a way that isn’t like “I FEEL ALL FLIBBIDYJIBBLY” or 2) being mushy online, but I can say with confidence that I can’t believe he picked me (not that the universe/I gave him a choice). I sure am a lucky gal!

So for those who weren’t with us, this is how our wedding day went (and so I can remember every little detail, not a joke, I’m writing down all of it). But┬átl:dr, December 3rd, 2015 was easily the best day of my life and I can’t wait for all of the December 3rd’s we have yet to come and every day in between.

To the furthest star and back,

Your married best friend =P

Katie’s Bridal Shower!

20150919_165634

Hi Steffi, here’s some fun pictures of the party we threw for Katie’s shower last weekend! It was elephant themed with lots of Tiffany blue and gray. It was pretty darn cute and lots of fun and most importantly, Katie loved it!

Fancy mimosa bar! I crocheted the little elephants banner and found the chalkboard signs in the $1 section at Target. We had tasty cucumber water and pink lemonade and lots of different juices for the mimosas!

Cute little treats and snacks! Mini pancake stacks with shots of syrup, ants on a log, and two different kinds of puppy chow. We had little elephants on top of the pancake toothpicks and sprinkled all the tables with elephant confetti! You can find the toothpicks on Etsy here and the confetti here.

IMG954736We took lots of ideas from pinterest and one of them was the ombre balloons and tulle tied around the strings. It was a lot of work but totally worth it; everyone was so impressed by it!

Everyone got a plastic champagne flute for their mimosas and we had them all sign a bottle for Katie in silver and gold sharpie.

We played games like pin the mustache on Andrew and had a Project Runway competition of toilet paper wedding dresses. These were hilarious! Thanks pinterest!

Congrats Katie!! Can’t wait till next month!!
