Reading Progress

Hi Beans,

I wanted to update you on my reading process. I haven’t read anything since I finished the Mistborn Trilogy and I will accept a punishment if I don’t read between now and my next post. Same goes for you? Between now and next Saturday some book progress must be made!

Here’s our joint challenge (completed tasks in italics):

  1. A book published this year: In the Labyrinth of Drakes (Memoir by Lady Trent, #4) by Marie Brennan
  2. A book you can finish in a day: The Only Pirate at the Party by Lindsey Stirling.
  3. A book you’ve been meaning to read:  A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
  4. A book recommended by someone at Changing Hands: The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald
  5. A book you should have read in school:
  6. A book chosen by your spouse & one chosen by your BFF: Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
  7. A book published before you were born:
  8. A book that was banned at some point:
  9. A book you own but have never read:
  10. A book that intimidates you:
  11. A book that you’ve already read once: The Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by J.K. Rowling

6/11 books completed.

As for my personal challenge, I’ve completed 14/20 books. I’d like to be at 25 by the end of the year though.

The Cuckoo’s Calling -A Review

Hi Steffibun!

I FINALLY finished The Cuckoo’s Calling last weekend…only 2 months to read it, not bad. It was over 400 pages, making it the longest book I’ve read since Harry Potter. I enjoyed reading it a lot; it’s a mystery crime novel and it reminded me of how much I enjoyed Nancy Drew. I tried not to think of who actually wrote it as I read, but I do know that helped me through some parts…Jo must have a great ending so I have to keep going. Don’t worry, no spoilers here. I was both surprised and mildly disappointed in the ending. Surprised because I honestly didn’t see it coming, but I am very bad at predicting the outcome of such stories even though I watch lots of CASTLE. Disappointed because I was surprised for all of half a second until the effect wore off.

I was a fan of the foreshadowing that I didn’t know was there until it was all revealed at the end. It had a OHHHHHHH-esque feeling to it that I’ve been missing since Harry Potter, though it was nothing of that caliber.

So I am definitely glad I read it, but I’m excited to read something more fantastical next. Which is why I am currently reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland! It’s very short and I plan on reading the illustrated HP afterwards so I can catch up on the challenge.

Book Challenge

Hello Karibbean,

I’m going to talk about books! We’re doing this challenge together and I will not be able to answer all the categories today because I can’t plan out what I’m going to read BUT I can get some down!

  1. A book published this year: I’ll let Changing Hands decide my fate on this one
  2. A book you can finish in a day: Maybe Lindsey Stirlings book? I might go picture book though!
  3. A book you’ve been meaning to read: All books will qualify for this category.
  4. A book recommended by someone at Changing Hands:
  5. A book you should have read in school: I think I’ll go with Song of Solomon by Toni Morison.
  6. A book chosen by your spouse & one chosen by your BFF: This will force me to read Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, which Andrew is trying to get me to read, plus you can still suggest one!
  7. A book published before you were born: I might go with Watership Down by Richard Adams, another book Andrew wants me to read.
  8. A book that was banned at some point: I’ve never read Go Ask Alice by Anonymous- but I’ve always wanted to – so that one!
  9. A book you own but have never read: We all know that I have plenty to choose from here
  10. A book that intimidates you: I don’t like this one. Books don’t really intimidate me if I’m interested in them. I might make a new category? Help me make one?
  11. A book that you’ve already read once: I just finished illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone so I will count this one done!

1/12 complete!

Let’s update each other on where we’re at in our reading so we can feel ashamed if we say the same thing each week!

Currently Reading : The Magicians by Lev Grossman pg 207!
