Stitch Fix #6

Hi Steffibun! Last Tuesday was a beautiful day when I received this in the mail! Thanks to Jamie, I had a credit and I needed new tops for work so I went ahead and ordered one. I bought everything in my last box when I asked for all sleeveless tops. This time I ordered all sleeved shirts. This is what they sent me!

From top left to bottom right:

Vidal Henley Blouse – this was too big so I didn’t keep it.

Londonderry Henley Blouse – this preppy style was adorable but it was just a bit too see through.

Ervin Cutout Detail Blouse – I kept this! The material is super light and I love the color.

Piazon Scallop Detail Blouse – I kept this one too. The sleeves are see through!

Lisbon Stud Detail Blouse – the shoulders are puffy so I wasn’t sure about it at first but the color and studs got me. I kept it!

New Skincare

Hi Bean!

I got a couple new skincare things because I had a 10% coupon at Sephora for spending too much money there. Sounds right. Here’s what I got!

I repurchase a full size of the Luna Night Oil by Sunday Riley and picked up their new Tidal cream to replace Artemis. Turns out, Artemis wasn’t really my thing. I also purchased Dr. Dennis Gross’s mineral sun spray and a Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light.

I feel like I can talk to you about three of these items, but the Tidal review is going to need to wait. I like it a lot – but it takes about 30 days to know if a product is working its magic. I can say I like it a lot though after 4 days of use (morning and night.

The Luna Oil is a must for me. This is my third .oz since I bought it for the first time in December. It’s a lovely oil and I hope you give it another shot!

The spray sun screen by Dr. Dennis Gross is really nice. I spray two squirts (I dislike the word squirt) into my hand and rub it on my face. It’s slippy in consistency and it’s a physical sunscreen so I’m liking it a lot! No breakouts and I don’t feel gross when I use it.

The Hourglass power is a repurchase but in a more yellow color. I stopped wearing foundation so I just put this all over after I’ve concealed and I like it a lot. Hourglass is one of my favorite cruelty free brands!

Lastly, this monstrosity. The waterproof Better Than Sex mascara by Too Faced. You and I both hated the regular version because it swam down our face by the end of the day. Well this one does it too. Usually waterproof formulas don’t do this so I was very excited. Too excited. My dreams were dashed.

PS you’re currently sitting on my couch, talking to your dogs and husband (mostly your dogs). We had such a nice day today, going to Sephora and Ulta and seeing Ariel(!!) and getting Dutch Bros and in a few hours we’re going to leave to go to the midnight release of HP! Yay! Yay for good days ❤

My First Dia & Co Box

Hi Kara,

I know I said I was going to talk about the fun serum potions that I featured in my last post, but I want to keep using them for a bit before I give them the rave review they probably deserve. Just be patient! I promise it will come!

Remember when you reviewed Stitch Fix and I lamented about the fact that there’s no plus size option? Well my prayers were answered with Dia & Co!

They are a plus size subscription box, just like Stitch Fix, and I am SO PLEASED WITH THIS SERVICE. The box shipped a few days after I signed up and arrived two days later. I am in love with two of the items but I forgot to tell my stylist that I’m a shorty so some of the items won’t work for me. If you’d like to purchase a box, you can use my link. https://www.dia.co/r/3v8i.  I get $20.00 for everyone who signs up, so if that’s not your thing, feel free to just search for it =)

Here’s what I got:

IMG_0043

Eunishop – Skyla Top – $42.00 – Size 1x

I love this shirt so much. Andrew called it a reverse apron and I think that’s darling. It has birds on the butt!

IMG_0037

Junarose – Vanessa Top – $59.00 – Size 1x

This next shirt would be a keeper but it has two flaws. The little studs catch on whatever is underneath it and I don’t think the shirt itself is worth the price. But otherwise, I LOVE THIS SHIRT. It’s very Illuminati and I adore see through shirts because I’m a closeted oversharer. Farewell cute shirt!

IMG_0038

Tua – Sabrina Top – $31.00 – Size 1x

This shirt is just ridiculous and will have to go. What are those boobie points? Also, I need to let my stylist know that going without a bra/strapless bra is not something that my boobies are capable of.

These pants are way too long and so is this weird painters shirt. NEGATIVE. (Fashion to Figure – Eden Skinny Jean – $46.90 – Size 14 & Fashion to Figure – Jade Chambray Tunic – $34.90 -Size 1x)

I’m excited to see what my stylist does next!

PS here are the details of the box if you’re interested.

Samsung Emojis Are Better

Hi Steffibun, it’s Tuesday again!

I want to tell you why my emojis are better than yours. They are superior in every way and it makes me sad that when I send you an emoji, you aren’t getting the full effect of my emotion.

Do you see the wonder in my face when I send you heart eyes?

There’s an app that will show you the translation between the two. It’s called Emojily. Apparently the girl with bunny ears I always use is actually dancing twins?

Here’s some of the new ones we just got. Look at my cute happy nerds!

Inglot Haul

Hi Karabean!

I bought a few new eyeshadows when we were in Vegas last weekend!

I needed some lighter shades to round out my Inglot collection so that was my goal!

in order: 467, 612, 393, 312, & 52

First: Inglot shadows have glitter mixed in with their pigments – this glitter barely transfers to the finished product, but allows for better blendability.

467 is a gorgeous neutral beige with a slight glitter.

612 is a light peach color with a slight glitter.

393 is almost identical to 612 in color but it has a wonderful golden sheen on it (no glitter)

312 is a lovely pinky peach color – similar to Makeupgeek’s Mango Tango

52 is a nice neutral brown with golden glitter.

Yay new shadows! I can’t wait to play with these!

The Cuckoo’s Calling -A Review

16160797

Hi Steffibun!

I FINALLY finished The Cuckoo’s Calling last weekend…only 2 months to read it, not bad. It was over 400 pages, making it the longest book I’ve read since Harry Potter. I enjoyed reading it a lot; it’s a mystery crime novel and it reminded me of how much I enjoyed Nancy Drew. I tried not to think of who actually wrote it as I read, but I do know that helped me through some parts…Jo must have a great ending so I have to keep going. Don’t worry, no spoilers here. I was both surprised and mildly disappointed in the ending. Surprised because I honestly didn’t see it coming, but I am very bad at predicting the outcome of such stories even though I watch lots of CASTLE. Disappointed because I was surprised for all of half a second until the effect wore off.

I was a fan of the foreshadowing that I didn’t know was there until it was all revealed at the end. It had a OHHHHHHH-esque feeling to it that I’ve been missing since Harry Potter, though it was nothing of that caliber.

So I am definitely glad I read it, but I’m excited to read something more fantastical next. Which is why I am currently reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland! It’s very short and I plan on reading the illustrated HP afterwards so I can catch up on the challenge.

Skin Care

Hello Karibbean,

I’m going to talk your ear off a bit about skincare. This post comes to you in a few excessively worded parts.

After buying the Luna Night Oil by Sunday Riley (post here), and seeing such a huge difference in what a quality/expensive product can do for my skin, I’ve really become more interested in taking care of my skin and choosing products that are both good for me and good for our little furry friends.

Sunday Riley’s products are made in the USA, they don’t have a parent company, and are 100% cruelty free (and some products are vegan, I believe). I say they don’t have a parent company for reasons: NYX is a “cruelty free” brand, but they’re owned by Loreal, which is a shitty company that likes testing on bunnies. When you purchase anything from NYX, a portion of those profits are going to benefit Loreal. And that sucks.

I really like this website for checking to see if a brand is cruelty free: Cruelty Free Kitty. I just found out, because of them, that REN – a well known prestige, cruelty free skin care brand – was just bought out by a bad parent company. NOT COOL.

I just bought Sunday Riley’s Artemis Oil as a day moisturizer and I’m planning on purchasing Dr. Dennis Gross’s (another cruelty free brand!) mineral SPF spray to layer on top of that. I’m excited for this new skincare journey I’m about to embark on!

Here’s to looking a subtle 30 when I’m 63!

Part two: A review.

yes, that’s a harvey butt

I bought a cleansing oil at TJ Maxx not too long ago called Coast to Coast Ultra Soothing Cleansing Oil – Grapefruit and Geranium. This product is kind of what spurred on my interest in buying better skincare because this product is 1) cheap and 2) sucky. It does the job of getting off my makeup but it made me break out in these little surface bumps – some of which had nothing inside them. I wouldn’t suggest this product and it is going to find a home in my trash.

Part three: I know I’m late to post this, but I had a really weird day yesterday. I will explain why in a private post to you. I’m going to do it as a private post because 1) it’s personal 2) I want to keep this blog as an honest account of what’s going on in my life but I’m not super comfortable sharing the negatives with the world yet because 3) I’m really bad at doing what Margaret Atwood describes as telling the truth slant. I have a very hard time talking about things in a kind way if they make me upset. But hopefully, the more I try – the better  I will become.

That’s it for me! To the furthest star and back,

PS halfway through this post, derpy decided he wanted to sit between me and the computer and I tried to get a Photo Booth picture but IT DIDN’T WORK AND NOW I’M SAD.

PPS books! I finished Voyage of the Basilisk, the third book in the Lady Trent series and it was SO GOOD. I don’t know what book I will move onto next, but if I don’t start one by next week, give me a mini punishment. Which is something I think we should do.

Luna

Hi Kara,

I wasn’t going to talk about this. It was just going to be our dirty little secret from the night before my wedding but you know what?? IT’S THE MOST AMAZING THING AND I WONT BE ASHAMED.

I’m talking, of course, about my shameful purchase of Luna Night Oil by Sunday Riley.

Let’s just get this out in the open. This 1oz bottle is $105.00. That’s a lot of money. In the skincare world, it’s not really that bad, but that’s like 40 trips to Taco Bell. But…

I’ve noticed a HUGE difference in my skin since using this product in conjunction with my other skincare. First, I’m not breaking out. I have my occasional period zits of doom, but even when I get those, the spots dissapear within a week – something that would normally take my very fair skin at least a month to deal with. My skin seems more balanced and even in tone. I can’t get enough of this stuff and I know that I will be repurchasing.

A couple things to note: this product has a very herbally scent. I like it a lot but it could be off putting. It also has two dyes added to the product, which I don’t really understand or like but my skin isn’t bothered by them, clearly. This product contains the highest level of retinol that is available over the counter – which can be drying to the skin. Retinol promotes cell turnover and is very happy making to your skin. As an oily skinned person, I have no trouble using this on a nightly basis and I find that it’s helping to dry me out a bit, which is something I need, but people with dryer skin might want to use a product like this every 2-3 days.

Here is my unmakeuped face. Ohhhh. Aaaahhhh.

airport selfie!

Thanks for keeping my secret, Kara, but it was too good not to share.

PS it’s my birthday! Happy birthday to me!

To the furthest star and back,

Wedding Details: The Dress

Hi Keddah,

Today I want to talk about the dress!

I got my dress last… February? At a place in Phoenix called Strut Bridal Salon. They’re specialists in plus size bridal gowns, and I found them at the Arizona Bridal Show. Funnily enough, I was walking around the booths during some down time at the summer show in 2014, complaining that there were no places that specialized or even had gowns for plus size women, when someone kindly pointed out that the booth DIRECTLY BEHIND MINE was for Strut. I ran over there like the devil himself was going to snatch up all of their stock before I made an appointment, and it was the best decision I could have ever made.

Strut was a godsend for me. I was so nervous about going dress shopping and not being able to fit into any of the dresses in stock, or having to do additional prep work to let the salons know I was plus sized. All of the dresses I tried on fit me, I never once felt less or unworthy or any of the horrible things that plus size women can feel at bridal shops. I had an amazing time and I would recommend them and Angel (the woman who helped me pick out my dress) to any plus size woman ANYWHERE. Come from far and wide, it is so worth it.

With me that day was my mom, Kara (maid of honor), Kelsi (other maid of honor), and Katherine (hair dresser and favorite human). First thing we did was try on a cupcake dress, just as a laugh. And that dress became my dress! We tried on a few more, and I actually ended up going with a more elaborately detailed 40’s style dress, but by the next day I knew I had made a mistake and they allowed me to purchase the first cupcake dress instead.

Swish

From there, I took the dress to Janet Kirkman for alterations. We had so many visits with her, but she understood my vision and she was absolutely amazing. We shortened it considerably, made the bodice smaller, and added additional boning to bust. My dress wouldn’t be my dress without her. I would recommend her to any future bride – and her prices were also incredibly reasonable!

And then we have the final dress! Tea length, very 50-60’s with the cardigan, and I have never felt more beautiful in my life. I genuinely felt like a princess. And I fully intend to wear it again someday. 1 year wedding anniversary??? Is that too soon? Eh, who’s gonna stop me?

Sneak peek of our wedding photos!

Reviews of ~*~things

Hi Kara,

Here are some things!

I went to see the Book of Mormon on Tuesday. It was easily one of the best musicals I’ve ever seen in my life. The cast was incredible – they were so completely into it – and the audience was undeniably nerdy. There are parts of the musical that only nerds would understand and I felt very MY PEOPLE while there. It was magical. Andrew loved it too. We have been singing bits of the musical to each other since Tuesday and I don’t know when it will stop. And this is what I wore!

IMG_9903

Tuesday was also the official start of the month long countdown to my wedding. Um. Remember when I started planning this thing like.. Two years ago. How is it so close? We’re going to pick out Andrew’s “suit” this weekend and I’m super excited.

Lastly, I finished Tyler’s book, Binge. It was really good. I couldn’t believe how raw and honest some sections were. It was very eye opening and I can’t wait for you to start reading it!

I have to read three more books before I double the number of books I read last year and I think I can do it!

I will get to work on my punishment next week. I just need to find a photo contest that isn’t dumb.
