My Favorite Things

Hi Beanzies!

I’m doing my March post because I can’t be trusted to post anymore.

Here are some of my favorite things!

This was my delicious hipster/hippy/trendy? Idk which, breakfast this morning! I need more antioxidants and omegas in my diet and this has both! It’s a banana, strawberry, mango, blueberry acai bowl with raw walnuts and hemp seeds on top. It’s very delicious and filling! I wish I had a better blender (I use my food processor) but it will do for now!

Kitties lounging in the sunshine. A forever favorite.

Banana for scale

This post wouldn’t exist without my new washing machine. It holds… so much stuff. We would normally need to do two or three loads to do all of our towels in our old washer. WE CAN DO THEM ALL AT ONCE. We could barely fit our quilt in our old washer and WE CAN WASH THAT AND A SET OF SHEETS AND HAVE ROOM TO SPARE – MY LIFE IS GOOD.

These two perscription medications have changed my face. For the past two+ weeks of using these together, my face has done a 180. I have better skin right now than I think I’ve ever had before. I’ve had two spots since using these to products whereas before, I was getting a new spot daily. I’m so so happy and grateful and I keep thinking to myself “Is this my life? Is this my skin?” Eep!

Lastly, my adorable kimono (I hate that they’re called that. They’re not a Kimono, they’re thin cardigans). It’s so cute and I love the siloette it gives me 🙂

LASTLY for real, there a two things I couldn’t get pictures of. One is Beauty and the Beast. That movie was FREAKING AMAZING! And also my bidet. My bidet is life altering and everyone who doesn’t have one is a peasant scum. My butt is sparkling.

Skin Inc. Serum Review

Hi Keddahbean and Cheese.

img_3220

The three serums I purchased in the bundle are Vitamin C (Rebalance and Tackle Pores – but also Vitamin C boosts the effects of all products applied after Vitamin C. This is especially important for SPF!), Licorice (Calm Irritated Skin), and French Pine Bark (Antioxidant Protection – which helps to prevent aging from free radical and UV damage). The three serums in the sample were Vitamin A (Even Tone and Reduce Dark Circles), Hyaluronic Acid (Long Lasting Hydration) and Chlorella (Brighten and Tackle Spots).

First I will let Sephora describe the product to you:

Patented Japanese seaweed encapsulation technology allows for an effective delivery of pure, potent ingredients, while the humectant-rich base delivers lasting hydration. Layer individually or blend with up to two additional Skin Inc. customizable serums to provide optimal results and create a powerful, multipurpose product.

Now, I want to talk to you about Skin Inc and their Custom Serums. But I feel like to talk about the good, I need to start here:

The Bad: I purchased the My Daily Dose Custom-Blended Serum Set from Sephora on 7/7. This kit allows you to get 3 full size Custom Serums and a Serum Bottle for $90.00. You essentially get one Serum and the Serum Bottle for free. I think this is a spectacular deal. But I’ll be done with the product by the end of this month if not sooner. And I stopped using it day and night about a week ago. $90.00 for a product that lasts less than 45 days – I don’t know how I feel about that. It could be 100% my fault but I am having a hard time recommending the product or deciding if I will repurchase simply because of this. But, knowing that, let me get into the MANY positives of this product.

img_3219

The Good: There are so many I need to break them down.

Customer Service: I contacted their customer service to find out if this is a cruelty free brand. I sent this email on 7/7 at 10:03am.

Hello. Do you test on animals, at any point during the production of your products? Are your ingredients tested on animals by your suppliers? Do you test on animals when required by law? Are you owned by another company? Thank you!

They responded with this email on 7/7 at 10:57am.

Hello Stephanie,
Thank you for your inquiry.  I am happy to share that Skin Inc is a cruelty-free brand, and that we do not currently sell into China, or any other countries which require animal testing.  Skin Inc does not acquire ingredients from third parties who conduct animal testing.  Our company is privately held so we are not affiliated with any other brands which conduct different practices than what I have outlined here.
I hope that you find this information helpful; please don’t hesitate to reach out with any further questions.
Cheers to awesome skin!
Kind regards,
Brie
  1. Fast and amazing customer service.
  2. Kind and detailed response
  3. Cruelty free line!
This is the kind of company I want to support!
The Product: This is a really incredible product. First, it’s a fun product. It had a very apothecary feel and I love that. I loved mixing the three bottles into one – I loved the bottle itself – the whole thing. I loved the targeted aspect of this product. It’s awesome that you can use balancing serums where you need it, cell turnover serums on dark spots or healing breakouts, and vitamin C for balancing all over.

Also, it’s an educational product. The three serums I purchased plus the three I received as samples from Sephora informed me about my skin in ways I wasn’t expecting. I have dry skin? Well of course I do. I live in the hottest state in the nation, I use acne products, and I don’t drink nearly enough water. OF COURSE I need moisturizing products. So when I started using the Hyaluronic Acid all over, my skin perked up and my breakouts lessened.

Lastly, I truly feel that this product has changed my skin.

Overall: I think I would recommend this product to people who are very interested in skincare. I also think that I will repurchase the kit – but I think I will change the serums. I think I can drop the Vitamin C and replace it with a Vitamin C serum by another company (I’m looking at you, Drunk Elephant). I will keep the French Pine Bark for sure because duh. And, I think I will keep my products separate so that I can do more area correcting vs all over correcting.

I think this was my most educational skincare post so far. I hope you liked learning about my little apothecary bottles as much as I loved using and learning about them.
HAVE THE VERY BESTEST DAY KARA & FRIENDS.
((And you better, Kara, because I’m at your house RIGHT NOW))

New Skincare

Hi Bean!

I got a couple new skincare things because I had a 10% coupon at Sephora for spending too much money there. Sounds right. Here’s what I got!

I repurchase a full size of the Luna Night Oil by Sunday Riley and picked up their new Tidal cream to replace Artemis. Turns out, Artemis wasn’t really my thing. I also purchased Dr. Dennis Gross’s mineral sun spray and a Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light.

I feel like I can talk to you about three of these items, but the Tidal review is going to need to wait. I like it a lot – but it takes about 30 days to know if a product is working its magic. I can say I like it a lot though after 4 days of use (morning and night.

The Luna Oil is a must for me. This is my third .oz since I bought it for the first time in December. It’s a lovely oil and I hope you give it another shot!

The spray sun screen by Dr. Dennis Gross is really nice. I spray two squirts (I dislike the word squirt) into my hand and rub it on my face. It’s slippy in consistency and it’s a physical sunscreen so I’m liking it a lot! No breakouts and I don’t feel gross when I use it.

The Hourglass power is a repurchase but in a more yellow color. I stopped wearing foundation so I just put this all over after I’ve concealed and I like it a lot. Hourglass is one of my favorite cruelty free brands!

Lastly, this monstrosity. The waterproof Better Than Sex mascara by Too Faced. You and I both hated the regular version because it swam down our face by the end of the day. Well this one does it too. Usually waterproof formulas don’t do this so I was very excited. Too excited. My dreams were dashed.

PS you’re currently sitting on my couch, talking to your dogs and husband (mostly your dogs). We had such a nice day today, going to Sephora and Ulta and seeing Ariel(!!) and getting Dutch Bros and in a few hours we’re going to leave to go to the midnight release of HP! Yay! Yay for good days ❤

4/1/16

Hi Karelala,

I shouldn’t have waited to do this post until the end of the day because we went out to eat at this terrible dim sum place and they tried to kill me with pork. I haven’t eaten pork in over 10 years. My stomach is very unhappy. Let’s see if I can make it through this post without vomiting.

I wanted to show you my day yesterday 🙂

My day started at noon – after spending the morning working from Henderson, NV.

I went from looking like this :

To looking like this:

Which was a small but kind improvement.

Then I went to this place and looked at a bunch of beautiful and unique furniture :

img_2330img_2336

img_2331

I really wanted to take this home.

img_2337img_2335img_2339
Then I drove back to Andrew’s dad’s house and this guy smiled at me :

And then we went out to eat and you bet your perfect butt that I didn’t take pictures because I was too busy inhaling my food.

Then we went to the Belagio:

I lost $0.80 for you Kara

I technically won $50 cuz I bet $40 BUT STILL!

And then we went home and this happened:

And these were the things that made me happy yesterday.

PS no barfing! Yet!

Updated Skincare Routine AM/PM

Hi Keddahbbien and Cheese,

I haven’t done an updated skincare routine in a long time and I’m feeling very proud of my new setup so let us begin! First: a Key!

No star: The brand is cruelty free!

*: Brand is not cruelty free and will be replaced by a cruelty free option once the product is used up!

**: Prescription – which most certainly is not cruelty free – which I will not replace because prescription.

***: I’m unsure if the company is or is not cruelty free because I’ve heard contradicting reports. I will either do more research when the time comes to replace the product or buy something I know is cruelty free.

Night:

  • Remove any makeup with Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover* or Sephora Collection Tripple Action Cleansing Water*
  • Cleanse with CeraVe***
  • Tone with Pixi Glow Tonic
  • Treat with Aczone Gel 5%**
  • Moisturize with Sunday Riley Luna Night Oil
  • Moisturize my eye area with Ole Henriksen Ultimate Eye Lift Creme***
  • Exfoliate with Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment

Day:

  • Cleanse with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser*
  • Tone with Pixi Glow Tonic
  • Treat with Aczone Gel 5%**
  • Moisturize with Sunday Riley Artemis Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil
  • Moisturize eye area with Ole Henriksen Ultimate Eye Lift Creme***
  • Protect with Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 PA++* (Sadly, this company was just bought by Unilever, making it no longer cruelty free)
  • Protect eye area with Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector SPF 30*

I’m really loving this set up. I feel so pampered and I can tell it’s making a difference to my skin.

Maybe I’ll try and make a skincare video to show you how I use them all!

Ps current reading A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness pg 15

Pps my new day is Saturday!

Luna

Hi Kara,

I wasn’t going to talk about this. It was just going to be our dirty little secret from the night before my wedding but you know what?? IT’S THE MOST AMAZING THING AND I WONT BE ASHAMED.

I’m talking, of course, about my shameful purchase of Luna Night Oil by Sunday Riley.

Let’s just get this out in the open. This 1oz bottle is $105.00. That’s a lot of money. In the skincare world, it’s not really that bad, but that’s like 40 trips to Taco Bell. But…

I’ve noticed a HUGE difference in my skin since using this product in conjunction with my other skincare. First, I’m not breaking out. I have my occasional period zits of doom, but even when I get those, the spots dissapear within a week – something that would normally take my very fair skin at least a month to deal with. My skin seems more balanced and even in tone. I can’t get enough of this stuff and I know that I will be repurchasing.

A couple things to note: this product has a very herbally scent. I like it a lot but it could be off putting. It also has two dyes added to the product, which I don’t really understand or like but my skin isn’t bothered by them, clearly. This product contains the highest level of retinol that is available over the counter – which can be drying to the skin. Retinol promotes cell turnover and is very happy making to your skin. As an oily skinned person, I have no trouble using this on a nightly basis and I find that it’s helping to dry me out a bit, which is something I need, but people with dryer skin might want to use a product like this every 2-3 days.

Here is my unmakeuped face. Ohhhh. Aaaahhhh.

airport selfie!

Thanks for keeping my secret, Kara, but it was too good not to share.

PS it’s my birthday! Happy birthday to me!

To the furthest star and back,

Punishments and a MOTD

Hello Keddah,

Let’s start this out with what I’m most excited for; YOUR PUNISHMENT. Film yourself (or stuffed animals) reciting a play, poem, or monologue as dramatically as humanly possible. Have fun!

Now on to my makeup post.

Last weekend I had an urge to make myself up. Here are some pictures!

Here are some of the shadows I used. I don’t really want to list them all out because I kind of dip my brush into all of them, but if you want to know specifics, lemme know.

This is my collection of Inglot and some of my MakeupGeek collection. The look was based around the round pan in the top left hand corner.

Hope you like it! I’m going to try and challenge myself to doing a makeup look a month! ❤

Beauty Post and THE FIRST PUNISHMENT

Hi Kara.

I’m giddy. Do you know why I’m giddy? Because you’re going to have to put peanut butter on your face and then tell me something interesting about something interesting. I’m pretty sure you know the face I’m making but JUST IN CASE, it looks something like this:

IMG_9316

Which is also my pooping face.

On to my post!

I bought a few new beauty items that I wanted to feature today. They are:

IMG_9308

Left to right: Mark Jacobs O!Mega Bronzer in 102, Kiehl’s BB Cream in Fair sample, Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector, MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set in Brown Ebony, MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash, and Covergirl Clump Crusher Water Resistant Mascara in Black.

I recently purchased the Marc Jacobs Beauty bronzer and Kiehl’s under eye cream. And first, we need to go into a rant (is there a non-negative word for rant? I’m going to word-gush? Spit some knowledge).

I needed a new bronzer because my Nars Laguna bronzer is getting to the point where it’s a real bitch to use. So I did me some research. The Laguna bronzer is $39.00 for .23 ounce of product. One ounce of product then costs $139.29. Whereas the Marc Jacobs bronzer – which is equally as wonderful – is $49.00 for one ounce of product. UM. Always check the ounces my friends.

Review time!

The Marc Jacobs Beauty O!Mega Bronze in 102 is really a wonderful product. I don’t find that it’s too dark or too light for my fair skin, it’s very easy to blend out, it’s relatively sheer (so you can’t really eff it up), it’s buildable, it makes me have a healthy looking glow and there’s a huge mirror (which is great for travel). The product is matte, but I absolutely would not consider this to be a contour shade (for fair skin). It’s a little too red toned for that. I love it! And I wont have to buy another bronzer in a long time because THIS SHIT HUGE.

The Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector was purchased because I finally ran out of my First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy: Brighten, Depuff and Smooth (sidebar: WHY ARE THE NAMES OF UNDER EYE CREAMS SO LONG JFC). The FAB product has no SPF and costs $36 for .34oz of product, whereas the Keihl’s product has an SPF of 30 (very important) and costs $38.00 for .50oz of product. The Keilh’s product is also more pigmented in the tint – so I feel like I don’t have to wear as much concealer (or any at all). Lastly, the Keilh’s container is superior. The stupid metal nob on the FAB product lost it’s appeal after about the 10th time that I had to clean it.

Here’s the makeup look that I created with the products above!

IMG_9309

Hope you enjoy!

PS when did my hair get this long?

IMG_9310

Yes my shirt says Kale.

Sephora Haul

Hello Keddahbean,

I wanted to show you what I got with my VIP Rouge 15% off coupon!

First, last year was 20% and not giving us 20% this year is a bunch of horse hockey (this phrase is now added to my vernacular thanks to Northernlion. Andrew and I watch his videos more than I’m comfortable admitting to you, Kara.) Second, when Maryann had her fall, Andrew and I packed up about a days worth of clothes and toiletries, because we didn’t know where she was going to end up. When she was transferred down to Phoenix, I left my skin care in the car – and since skin care needs to remain at a certain temperature, otherwise it’s no good, I had to buy all new stuff (which I was eager to do – I didn’t care for my old stuff anyways). Third, all products purchased DO NOT test on animals. Working with Alison has reminded me that fighting against animal cruelty with my dollars spent is not an uphill battle. I want to get back to having a cruelty free beauty regime!

Edit: I wrote this blog post before I found out that Tarte was bought last year by a company in Japan that tests on animals. I may or may not be returning my Tarte product, but all of my opinions on the product are still true haha.

Edit (again): sorry for the lack of pictures! It’s moving day!

Let’s start with skin care.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 40: This is a wonderful moisturizer. It has a really odd/lovely mouse like texture, it doesn’t break me out, it’s light and sinks into the skin right away, and the best part is, it has more natural ingredients for sun protection, like zinc oxide! For those who are natural sun-care savvy, this sunscreen/moisturizer does not leave a white cast on my skin, but I’m not a hundred percent sure if anything could make me more white.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream: Again, this is a wonderful product. A unique texture, again, but it’s so soft and it melts into the skin. I’m experiencing no irritation using this product and I’ve noticed that my skin is really looking lovely even though I’ve had a hard couple of weeks with little sleep.

First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy Overnight Balm: I currently use FAB’s Eye Duty Triple Remedy: Brighten, Depuff and Smooth in the morning and I’ve used their 5 in 1 Eye Cream, so I was eager to try their overnight balm, which is a recent release. This product is creamy, balmy, and is doing wonders for my eyes. This is the first overnight eye product I’ve used that hasn’t caused irritation. My eyes aren’t puffy when I wake up and they seem much more hydrated. It is not helping with any fine lines, but I know I’m going to have to spend more than $38 for help in that area.

Also, this product is a balm so I massage it into my eye area. There’s no tugging or pulling involved so it’s safe to do, but I feel that massaging it into the skin leads to the best results.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen: I’ve used this product before and I love it so. It’s such a nice, velvety, simple, sheer foundation. This is my third or fourth bottle and it will continue to be a staple in my beauty regime for a long time to come. Best of all, it’s pale enough! Almost too pale! Woohoo!

Extra Goodies: I spent a few of my beauty points and got a few naughty extras. A sample of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (which is arguably NOT better than sex. This mascara was halfway down my face by the end of the day [there’s a dirty joke here but I’m too lazy to find it]), and a Beauty Insider 500 Point perk which included a cute little makeup bag (which is actually wonderful quality), a sample size of Tarte’s LipSurgence Skintuitive Lip Tint in Energy (which I haven’t tried yet), a sample size of Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural in Copper Pink (haven’t tried and I don’t know if this is a cruelty free brand), a sample size of  Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (again, haven’t tried and I don’t know if this is a cruelty free brand), and a sample size of First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser (which is lovely and I will be keeping for travel!).

That’s it for my naughty purchases! Hope you enjoyed =D
